Anti-oxidant, Anti-inflammatory activities of P-Yakchim

Objectives : The aim of this study is to prove its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effect of P-Yakchim. Methods : In this study, we analyzed the anti-oxidative effect of P-Yakchim by investigating 1,1-dipheenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl free radical scavenging activity. To investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of P-Yakchim, cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 were measured. Results : P-Yakchim didn t showed anti-oxidative effect compared to butyl hydroxyanisole. But P-Yakchim showed anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the production of cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6. Conclusions : These results represent that P-Yakchim might have inflammatory effect by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6. Further investigation including exact mechanisms should be needed.
