국제스포츠행사의 경제 및 사회적 파급효과에 대한 연구

Study on the Economic and Social Effects of International Sporting Events - Focusing on Results of Previous Researches

최근 대형 국제스포츠행사의 개최에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있으며, 이는 대형 국제스포츠행사의 개최로 개최도시의 발전과 변화를 추구하기 위함이다. 특히, 대형 국제스포츠행사인 올림픽이나 축구 월드컵의 개최는 개최도시의 경제성장과 함께 사회적 영역의 발전, 국제적인 인식과 평판의 확대 등 긍정적인 파급효과를 가져올 것으로 기대하고 있다하지만, 다수의 학자들은 대형 국제스포츠행사의 개최가 개최도시에 특정한 경제 및 사회적 파급효과를 가져다주지 못할 뿐만 아니라 개최도시의 발전에 악영향을 줄 가능성을제기하는 비판적 주장을 전개하고 있다. 본 연구는 국제스포츠행사의 파급효과에 대한논쟁의 내용과 파급효과에 대한 기존의 다양한 연구결과들을 종합적으로 탐색하여 국제스포츠행사의 기대효과를 진단하도록 한다.

In recent years, there has been increased interest in the idea of promoting urbandevelopment and change through the hosting of mega international sporting events,such as the Olympic Games and the FIFA association football World Cup. It isexpected that the hosting of mega international sporting events offers host cities thepossibility of a stimulus to economic growth, improved social aspects, enhanced globalrecognition and prestige, and etc. However, it is also claimed that the hosting of megainternational sporting events does not generate any economic and social effects on hostcities. This has resulted in a growth of academic interest in ways of analysing theirassertion. Following a review of the literature on the contrasting approaches that havebeen used, this study assesses the economic and social impact of mega internationalsporting events, particularly economic and social effects on host cities.
