본 연구는 도시지역의 특성 중 인구·사회·경제적 요인을 중심으로 범죄율과의 관계를 분석하고자 실시되었다. 이러한 연구목적을 위해 이론적 논의와 선행연구를 바탕으로 인구학적 요인, 경제적 요인, 지역사회 해체 요인, 경찰관련 요인을 선정하여 범죄율에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 도시지역의 인구·사회·경제적 요인과 전체범죄율과의 회귀분석 결과, 세대당 재산세와 이혼율이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 세가지 범죄유형별로 살펴보면, 강력범죄율에는 이혼율과 청소년인구비가, 절도범죄율에는 청소년인구비와 세대당 재산세가, 폭력범죄율에는 이혼율과 세대당 재산세가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 분석 결과를 종합해보면 도시지역의 특성 중 세대당 재산세, 이혼율, 청소년인구비가 범죄발생에 영향을 미치는 주요한 원인으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 도시지역의 범죄 발생을 예방 또는 경감시키기 위해서는 첫째, 가족의 결속력과 유대를 강화할 수 있는 방안의 모색, 둘째, 청소년들에 대한 관심과 복지적·문화적·교육적 측면의 다양한 지원, 셋째, 범죄의 매력성을 감소시킬 수 있는 범죄예방 전략이 요구되며, 도시계획과 도시개발에 있어서도 이러한 측면을 고려해야 할 것으로 사료된다.
This study has been conducted to analyse the relationship between crime rate and characteristics of urban areas, focusing on demographic and socio-economic factors. To attain this purpose, demographical, economical and community disorganization factors as well as police related factors are selected from the factors that influence on crime rates in theoretical background and previous studies. The result of empirical analysis showed that the factors relating to total crime rates were household property tax and divorce rates, the factors relating to felony crime rates were divorce rates and proportion of youth, the factors relating to thefts rates were proportion of youth and household property tax, and the factors relating to violent crime rates were divorce rates and household property tax. By putting together the analytical results, it has been shown that among characteristics of urban areas, household property tax, divorce rates and proportion of youth are major factors at influencing crime rates. Based on these results, to look at ways to strengthen family bond, to increase concerns for the youth and to offer various assistance on social, cultural and economical aspects, to implement crime prevention strategy to reduce the attraction of crime, and to consider such factors at city planning and development projects are required to prevent occurrence of urban crime.
