The Present Situation of Rural Housing and Its Policy Implications

The objectives of this paper is to find out policy implications through the analysis of the present situation of rural housing in 3 villages of whyayong -myun, Andong. This paper focuses on the supply and demand of rural housing. The method of analysis is to use questionnaire survey on 134 households. The policy implications from this analysis are as follows. First, it is necessary to expand the convenient facilities outside housing for small-sized agricultural households and the supply of non-agricultural typed housing. Second, for the convenient facilities inside housing kitchen, wash room, and bathroom should be improved because of their very poor situation comparing with ones in urban housing. Third, one of the characteristics of population in this case area is the much more sharing of elder population than younger population. Thus, the supply of housing suitable for them should be systematically increased. Forth, there are many problems in terms of affordability because of poor economic situation. The policy for low income residents in rural area should be positively developed, especially in terms of rural housing because it is basic need for their life.
