The Utilization of Closed Circuit Television for the Crime Prevention - the case of Y university

In the past, the people considered campus of university as a speculative world；i. e. Ivory Tower. So, no one thinks that there are street crimes on Ivory Tower. Therefore, though there are many crimes on and out campus, we don’t know anything about the size or the types of campus crime. Particularly, there are many crimes in one-room village near the campus. In these contexts, CCTV represents a new and valuable weapon in the fight against crime and public disorder in one-room village. Over the past ten years, closed circuit television(CCTV) cameras have been an increasingly familiar part of the urban landscape in many developed countries. The range of applications for CCTV are seemingly endless, from town centers to corner shops, from schools to industrial estates the cameras seem to pervade every aspect of life. Prior to the advent of CCTV, the extent of police surveillance was limited by the number of officers on the street and the willingness of the public and police informers to report and cooperate in the investigation of crime. The advantages of CCTV, properly managed, speak for themselves : crime prevention, the deterrent effect of knowing that there is observation, the alerting of police at an early stage to stop dangerous situations escalating, the operational assistance to the police in sizing up a situation, the safer convictions that can be enormous. This article suggest the establish ways and means needed to improve the CCTV management system, with the case of Yeungnam University one-room village.
