  • 86

This study was performed to examine the characteristics of picky eaters’ temperaments, mothers’ eating behaviors and child-feeding practices in infants with atopic dermatitis. This study was conducted from September to November in 2012 at the Allergy Center of Samsung Medical Center for 100 infants (2~5 years old) diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. The general characteristics, temperament and eating behaviors of the infants, mothers’ eating behavior and child-feeding practices were investigated through questionnaire. The scores of eating behavior of infants was analyzed by cluster analysis. Cluster 1 was named non-picky eater (NPE) group and cluster 2 was named picky eater (PE) group. NPE group had significantly more male infants than PE group (p<0.05). Score of activity level of infants’ temperament in PE group was significantly higher than that in NPE group (p<0.05), whereas adaptability of infants’ temperament in PE group was significantly lower than that in NPE group (p<0.01). The subscales of infants’ feeding behavior were significantly associated with certain subscales of infants temperament, maternal feeding practice and maternal feeding behavior in PE group. Pickiness of infants’ eating behavior was positively correlated with approach-withdrawal of infants’ temperament in PE group (p<0.05). This study provided basic data for preparing dietary guidelines, nutrition education and counseling for picky eaters in infants with atopic dermatitis. It is necessary to provide desirable nutritional information about taking food for picky eaters in infants with atopic dermatitis and nutrition care systematically.
