청소년의 온라인 커뮤니케이션 매체 이용 동기가 사이버불링에 미치는 영향

The Mediating effect of Emotional Empathy in the Relationship between the Motivation of Online Communication Media Usage and Cyberbullying

본 연구는 청소년을 대상으로 SNS의 온라인 커뮤니케이션 매체 이용 동기와 사이버불링 간의 관계를 살펴보고, 정서적 공감이 이들 변인간의 관계에서 매개효과를 가지는지 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울시에 소재한 중학생 및 고등학생 412명을 대상으로 하여 2019년 9월부터 10월까지 약 한 달간 설문을 통해 SNS 이용 동기, 정서적 공감, 사이버불링의 경험을 조사하고 구조방정식 모형을 통해 매개효과를 검증하였다. 연구 결과 오락 목적과 커뮤니케이션 목적으로 SNS를 사용하는 경우 사이버불링의 경험이 많은 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 커뮤니케이션 목적으로 SNS를 사용하는 경우 사이버불링과의 관계에서 정서적 공감에 대한 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 청소년이 SNS 이용을 커뮤니케이션 목적으로 하는 경우 사이버불링을 경험할 가능성이 높다는 것을 보여주고 있으며 정서적 공감 함양을 통한 청소년 교육은, 오프라인에서의 또래집단폭력을 줄일 수 있다는 선행연구의 결과와 마찬가지로, 온라인상에서의 사이버불링 감소에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다. 이와 같은 연구결과는 포스트 코로나 시대의 교육 환경 변화를 겪고 있는 현시점의 온라인 매체를 활용한 학습 환경에 많이 노출된 청소년들에게 온라인 교육과 더불어 정서적 공감 함양을 위한 교육의 필요성 및 중요성을 함께 제기한다.

This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of emotional empathy in the relationship between the motivation of online communication media usage and cyberbullying experiences. For this analysis, the survey response of 412 middle and high school students in Seoul Korea were collected. The mediation analysis using structural equation modeling were conducted. The results of this study were (1) there are positive relationships between cyberbullying experiences and gaming and communicating purposes in using online communication service, (2) the positive relationship between the communicating purpose of using the online communication service and cyberbullying experiences was partially mediated by the affective empathy. Therefore, it is more likely to experience cyberbullying if adolescents use SNS for the purpose of communication and the affective empathy in adolescents could have a positive effect on the reduction of cyberbullying suggested by the previous research about adolescents bullying on offline. Finally, this study implies that learning about empathy can be important in online educational system due to COVID-19.
