Dr. Chang Sik Lee as the Scholar of the Church Fathers

이장식 박사님은 교회사 연구와 기독교 사상사 연구에 큰 공헌을 하셨다. 특히 초대 교부 연구에 더 큰 공헌을 하셨다. 『젊은 어거스틴』은 정년퇴임 후에 아프리카에서 저술하신 것으로 보배와 같은 저술이다. 초대 교부들 모두에 대해 깊은 연구를 하셨다. 초대 교부들의 생애와 활동과 사상을 깊이 있게 다루시고 초대 교부 연구 학자들의 연구를 많이 소개하시고 논하셨다. 초대 교회의 삼대 학파인 알렉산드리아 학파, 안디옥 학파, 카르타고 학파의 신학적 경향을 비교하면서 명쾌하게 설명하셨다. 그리고 초대 교회 에큐메니칼 교회 회의에 대해 배경, 전개 그리고 결론을 명료하게 설명해주셨다. 『젊은 어거스틴』이라는 저서에서는 아우구스티누스가 391년 사제가 되기 이전에 쓴 모든 저서들에 대해 한 권 한 권씩 내용을 자세히 설명하고 논하셨다. 이 책을 공부하는 사람들은 아우구스티누스의 사상에 대해 깊은 이해를 가지게 될 것이다.

Dr. Chang Sik Lee greatly contributed to the study of the Church history and the history of the Christian thought. He gave a special contribution to the study of the Church Fathers. His book, Young Augustine, is the very precious work on Augustine. He deeply researched on all Church Fathers. He explained the life, work, and thought of the Church Fathers. Also, he widely researched the secondary sources of the Church Fathers. He comparatively explained the Alexandrian school, Antiochene school, and Carthaginian school. He clearly explained the background, developments, and conclusion of the Ecumenical councils of the Early Church. Young Augustine deals with the life and thought of young Augustine before A.D. 391, when Augustine became the priest of Hippo. Dr. Lee analysed and explained all the books of young Augustine in this Young Augustine.
