『詩經』에 나타난 ‘새’ 이미지의 상징성

The Symbol of the ‘Bird’ Image in the 『Book of Odes(詩經)』 - focusing on the love poetry

본고는『詩經』 중에 반복적으로 노출되며 비가시적 관념을 지향하고 있는 새의 묘사를 ‘상징’으로 규정하고, 반복되는 새 이미지를 보조관념으로 취하여 『詩經』 중에 나타나 있는 새 이미지의 상징성을 구명해 보고자 하였다. 본고에서는 ‘새의 울기’, ‘새의 날기’, ‘새의 머물기’ 이미지를 상징의 보조관념으로 취하였고, 작품 간의 비교·분석의 용이함을 위해 고찰범위를 애정시로 한정지어 논지를 전개하였다. 그 결과 ‘새의 울기’ 이미지는 ‘짝 찾기’, ‘새의 날기’ 이미지는 ‘짝과의 결합을 위한 거처로의 회귀’를 상징함을 알 수 있었으며 ‘새의 머물기’ 이미지는 새가 머물러 있는 장소가 제자리일 경우 ‘남녀의 결합’, 새가 머물러 있는 장소가 제자리가 아닐 경우에는 ‘남녀의 분리’를 상징함을 알 수 있었다.

This study defines the depiction of birds that are repeatedly exposed in the 『Book of Odes』 and aims at invisible notions as a symbol and attempts to identify the symbolism of the bird image in the 『Book of Odes』 by taking the repeated bird image as an auxiliary idea. In this paper, the images of bird s singing , bird s flying , and bird s staying were taken as subsidiary ideas of the symbol, and the scope of consideration was limited to love poetry to facilitate the comparative analysis between works. As a result, it can be seen that the image of bird s singing symbolizes mating and the image of bird s flying symbolizes returning home for union . The image of bird s staying symbolizes sexual union when the place where the bird stays is in place or separation of man and woman when the bird does not stay in place.
