Recently, side-by-side refrigerators are becoming commercialized because of their left and right compartments. In addition, refrigerators and freezers are becoming commercialized because they can be opened from the top and bottom. However, when a power failure occurs or the set temperature is reached, a refrigerator is not supplied with power. At this time, when the refrigerator is used, the food becomes stale owing to the high external temperature. Hence, a phase-change material (PCM) cold-storage duct needs to be utilized in a refrigerator to prevent this situation. In this study, temperature variations of a PCM cold-storage duct were analyzed when refrigeration inside was exposed to the outdoor temperature. The PCM cold-storage duct was exposed to 25 °C for 60 min. The PCM cold-storage temperature changed from 1.5 to 4.8 °C at the top and bottom, respectively, and -14.7 to -8.2 °C at the left and right sides, respectively. Additionally, the cooling air in the PCM cold-storage duct started to coagulate from the upper side having a large heat-exchange area and solidified from the side to the center with the coagulation nucleus.
