茶와 禪에 대한 一考

A Study on the Tea and Zen - Focusing on the Zen-temple Tea Ceremony of the Song Dynasty

『선원청규』를 필두로 한 송대의 청규서들은 선원에서의 다탕의례에 대하여 매우 소상하고도 세밀한 규정들을 두고 있다. 이처럼 일견 복잡하고 억압적으로 보이는 의례들이 청규로 규정된 이유는 무엇이고, 그 의의는 무엇이었는가를 천착해보는 일이 이번 과제의 핵심이었다. 이를 위해 먼저 송대 선원다례의 규범적 특징들을 살폈다. 그 결과 우선 송대 청규서의 다례에 관한 규정들은 禪의 修行을 본위로 한다는 점과, 그 유형이 매우 많고, 선원에서 행해지는 각종 의식들에서 다탕의식이 중심에 있었음이 드러났다. 나아가 선승들의 일상이 곧 끽다 생활이었고, 이러한 다례는 매우 엄격하고 세밀하게 준행되었음이 밝혀졌다. 선원에서는 다례를 통하여 禪의 고차원적 경지에 도달하려는 禪적 열망이 고조되었고, 민간에서는 선원다례를 모방하여 정신세계를 강조하는 차 문화가 더욱 융성하게 되었으며, 선원다례를 기반으로 융성한 선차문화는 불교와 차 문화사 양면에서 적지 않은 기여를 한 것으로 평가할 수 있겠다.

The Zen-temple Tea Ceremony of the Sung Dynasty not only contributed to the practice and daily life of monks in the temple, but also contributed to the quantitative and qualitative development of the tea industry, and further contributed greatly to the development of various cultures such as art, architecture, teaware, and tea ceremony. In particular, as literary men created many tea poetry through the experience of Seon-temple tea ceremony, it contributed to the diversification and development of not only Buddhist poetry but also poetry literature as a whole. Furthermore, as Zen-temple Tea Ceremony influenced the tea-drinking culture of the general public, it contributed not less to the cultural development of the entire Sung Dynasty society. This not only contributed to China, but also affected Korea and Japan. The Zen-temple tea ceremony, the aspiration of Zen to reach the higher level of Zen through tea ceremony in temples was heightened, and the private tea culture emphasizing the spirit world by imitating the Zen-temple tea ceremony became more prosperous. It can be evaluated that the Zen tea culture that flourished as a result contributed not a little to both Buddhism and tea culture history.
