A study of Red burnished pottery in the southern part of Korea Peninsula

적색마연토기는 무문토기시대의대표적인 토기로서 臺附壺, 圓底壺, 碗, 小甕 등 다양한 器種으로 구성되어 있다. 그러나 지금까지 이에 대한 연구는 圓底壺를 중심으로 이루어져 왔다. 이것은 원저호만을 「전형」으로 보고, 나머지 기종에 대해서는 「무문토기형」으로 보는 시각과도 관련되어 있다.이에 대해 본고에서는 적색마연토기의 개념을 적색마연기법과 특정기종의 결합이라는 측면에서 재검토하여, 기존의 「전형」「무문토기형」이라는 분류개념이 성립되지 않음을 밝히고, 기종에 따라 분류할 것을 제안하였다. 이것은 적색마연토기가 단순히 제작기법뿐만 아니라 기종에서부터 무문토기와 구분되고 있음을 보여주기 때문이다. 적색마연토기는 무문토기의 등장과 동시에 출현하여 변화되어 가는데, 그 과정에는 기종 상호간의 형식변화 뿐만 아니라 무문토기인 호형토기의 속성도 개입되어 있다. 또한 시기와 지역에 따라 유행하는 기종에 차이를 보이면서, 특히 남부지역을 중심으로 지역색을 나타낸다.한편 적색마연토기는 일반적으로 부장용-의례용으로 인식되고 있지만, 처음에는 실생활에서 더 많이 사용되었다. 부장용으로의 채택은 원저호 등장 이후부터 시작되었던 것이다. 이러한 기능변화에는 적색마연토기의 출현과 소멸과정뿐만 아니라 당시인의 세계관도 반영되어 있는 것으로 생각된다.

Red burnished Pottery, along with patternless earthenware, presents an mumun Pottery Period. This awareness, however, makes slightly too much of the concept of round type jar. Therefore, its making intention and technical portions can redefine the conception and category of Red burnished Pottery.In other words, Red burnished Pottery can be understood by the combination of the Red burnishing technique and a certain type of earthenware. In this regard, Two concepts of classification, [type] and [patternless earthenware form] does not make sense. As a result, Red burnished Pottery tells patternless earthenware apart by observing not only its making technique but a kinds of earthenware.This kinds of Red burnished Pottery appeared, mutually interplayed, and changed its physical style into a variety on Korean peninsula. When Mumun Pottery culture developed and prospered, it started to had been widely liked in southern part of the peninsula building a regional creativity and originality.Red burnished Pottery was generally used as a tool of ceremony. The first usage, however, had been in practical life before introduction of round type jar. This gave us a reasoning that Red burnished Pottery came out and slowly disappeared and its functional transition represents the changing way of things looking.
