신라고분 출토 안교손잡이 시론

An Essay on the Saddlebow Handles from Silla Tombs

국내에서 삼국시대 마구 연구는 재갈과 등자에 집중되고 종합적인 마구 연구를 위해 꼭 필요한 안장 등에 대한 연구는 활발하게 이루어지지 못하였다. 본고는 종합적인 마구 연구를 위해서는 마구의 작은 부품이라도 새로운 인식 속에서 관심을 두고 면밀하게 연구해야 한다는 취지에서 그간 별로 주목하지 않은 안교손잡이라는 유물을 새롭게 검토해 보았다. 현재까지 한국 1점, 일본 1점으로 동아시아에서 2점만 출토되었다고 알려진 안교손잡이는 고분 발굴 보고서와 실물을 자세히 분석, 관찰한 결과 국내에서만 총 7점이 파악되었다. 이들은 구조나 형태, 재질 등에서 상당한 특징들을 갖고 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 나아가 이 특징들을 바탕으로 그간 兩頭釘, 不明鐵器 등으로 보고되었지만 안교손잡이일 가능성이 있는 자료를 8예 확인, 제시하였다.이러한 안교손잡이들은 재질에 따라 크게 녹각제와 금동제로 구분되는데 양자에 공반되는 마구의 양상 또한 차이를 보인다. 안교손잡이의 시 공간적 범위를 살펴보면 모두 5세기대 신라권 내에서만 출토되는 분포양상을 보이는 가운데 경주뿐만 아니라 특히 이와 정치적으로 관계가 깊었던 경산, 대구, 상주, 성주, 창녕지역의· 대형분에서만 출토되고 있다는 점은 주목할 만하다. 현재 자료만으로 안교손잡이의 용도를 명확히 알 수는 없지만 실용적 성격과 장식적 성격을 가졌다고 생각된다.끝으로 아직 확정되지 않은 일본 藤ノ木古墳 출토 마구의 제작지가 어디인가라는 문제를 안교손잡이라는 유물에 초점을 두고 보았을 때, 적어도 그 제작에는 신라의 영향이 있었음을 상정할 수 있었다.

The study of horse trappings has been concentrated on bridle bit and stirrups, leaving other equipments relatively unexplored. Particularly saddles has been almost out of concern as they were made mainly of wood and have hardly been preserved except metal components such as flange of saddlebow. This essay recognizes new data of saddlebow handles by reexamining excavation reports, thereby increasing the number hitherto known from only one to seven. Furthermore, by analysing the characteristics of these new data, the case of eight more possible handles are suggested. Saddlebow handles are classified into two groups, one made of antler and the other made of wood wrapped with gold-plated copper. These two groups might represent a difference of rank. The saddlebow handles are found only in 5th century Silla tombs at Geongju, as well as Geongsan, Daegu, Sangju, Seongju and Changneong area that had political relationships with Geongju as center area.It is extremely hard to determine exactly the function of saddlebow handles, but are supposed to have use of both practical and decorative characters. On the basis of newly recognized data of saddlebow handles in Silla area, it is suggested that there might have been some influence from Silla side to the manufacture of saddlebow handle from Fujinoki Tomb in Japan.
