영남지방 출토 종장판갑의 분포와 의미

The distribution pattern of the Vertical plate Armour from Yeongnam region

삼국시대 철제 갑주는 그 자체의 구조 분석을 넘어 집단의 성격이나 집단 간 관계와 같은 정치적 의미가 부여되어 왔다. 그런데 그간의 연구들은 주로 영남지방을 하나의 공간단위로 인식하고 갑주가 중심지에서 주변으로 전파된 듯이 이해한 데 문제점을 지적할 수 있다.당시 갑주를 수용한 과정은 철제 갑주가 출현한4세기의 영남지방 사회상이나 실물자료를 보아서도 일방적인 수용을 생각하기 어렵다. 본 연구는 영남지방이 지역 단위별로 갑주의 수용과 제작에 차이가 있다는 관점에 서서 4세기를 대표하는 종장판갑의 구조와 분포양상을 검토해 보았다.종장판갑은 계통을 나타내는 속성인‘후경판’을 중심으로 속성 조합에 따른 다양한 형식을 설정할 수 있다.그 결과 독자적인 형식의 존재여부를 근거로 경주,부산,김해지역권으로 구분할 수 있었다. 하지만 이 지역들은 독자적인 형식을 가질 뿐만 아니라 유사한 형식을 공유하기도 한다. 이 현상을 기술 교류라는 관점에서 살펴보았을 때 종장판갑이 소멸하는 Ⅲ단계의 변화가 주목할 만하다. 이 시기 찰갑은 전신을 보호할 뿐만 아니라 부속구도 발전하고 성행하며 종장판주는 장식을 통한 위세성이 강화되고 다양한 형식이 존재한다. 이러한 갑주의 수용여부는 각 지역권마다 다른데 단순히 기술 교류라는 측면보다 정치적 의도가 이면에 자리 잡고 있다고생각된다. 이는 갑주의 부장양상과 최근 관심이 높아가는 중장기마전술을 통해서도살펴볼 수 있다. 특히 부산지역권이 경주지역권과의 기술 교류가 두드러지는데 이는 신라의 낙동강하류 진출과 무관하지 않은 것으로 생각된다.

The advent of iron helmet and armour has been given a political meaning like a group character or relations between groups, beyond its own structure analysis. However, hitherto studies primarily recognize the southeastern part of Korea as a space unit, and they are understood as if iron helmet and armour was propagated into the surroundings from the central area. But, as if a unilateral acceptance of culture is unthinkable today, then the process of accepting armour would not have been just unilateral. In addition, the foregoing is unconvincing even as referring to the social image or actual data of the southeastern district in the 4th century when the iron armour appeared. This study examined a distribution pattern of the Vertical Plate Armour represent ing the 4th century, from the point that there is a difference between armour acceptance and manufacture by district unit in the southeastern area. As the result of it, the vertical plate armour can be classified into regional areas of Gyeongju, Pusan and Kimhae, by means of a unique type of existence. However, as distributi on areas share similar types as well as a unique style, this study examined such phenomena from the point of technology exchange. Amid them, Ⅲ phase chang ᐨ es in which the vertical plate armour became extinct is noticeable. At this period, a coat of mail protected the whole body and the accessories were developed and prevailed. The vertical plate armour beefed up authority by means of decorati on and showed various types. Acceptance of the armour varies in each district, which is deemed to show a political intention in the background, rather than the aspect of just technology exchange. It can be examined by an aspect of burial accessories of armour and by heavy cavalry tactics recently taking a growing interest. Especially, technology exchange between Pusan district and Gyeongju district is remarkable, which is deemed to be related to Silla’s advance into the lower Nakdong River.
