Reexamination of the Yinggeling Lower Culture

  • 8

The Mudanjiang river basin has been excluded in research even though it is very important that range of the east-northern Korea cultural area can be recognised within the Neolithic culture of the northen Korean Peninsula. Recently, the Noolithic culture of the Mudanjiang river basin is compared with the S ngnen Plain. It should be considered that the Mudanjiang river basin is relative with the Duman river basin ~ the Maritime territory. It is very important to determine the range of the Neolithic culture of the northen Korean Peninsula. It is separated into two styles in the Neolithic culture of the Mudanjiang river. The 1 style concludes sites that the vertical herring bone pattern pottery that is drew by pressed (Dachigu-apnal) pattern and herringbone(Chimsun) pattern pottery. It is a term that the Duman river 1 style and the Xhanka lake 1 style exist at the same time. In the 2 style, the herringbone(chim-sun) pattern and the no-pattern pottery coexists. However, it seems to be thought as a same style as a data that has got a whole form is not enough. Apattern of this style is similar with the Hanka lake rather than the Duman river by a gung-hyung pattern. The Yinggeling lower culture begins 5000 B.P. and the 1 style ends about 4400 B.P. compared with the Duman river basin and the Hanka lake basin. The 2 style ends 3800 B.P. However, the end of the 2 style should be deferred as the 2 style can be separated and it needs to be compared with the Bronze Age.
