신라고총과 고총체계의 관점

The high-mound tomb’s system of Silla

이 글은 신라 고총이 출현하여 확산되고, 다시 쇠퇴하는 과정을 신라가 국가로 형성되어 발전하는 과정이라는 가정아래 이를 문헌과 연계시켜 살펴보았다. 글은 신라의 고총이 축조되기 이전과 직후의 상황을 경주의 도시 경관이라는 측면과 결합시켜 수도가 형성되면서 함께 고총의 축조가 시작되었고, 고총이 그 도시 경관에서 차지하는 몫을 비중있게 다룸으로써 신라가 초기국가로 완성되는 과정을 그렸다. 그리고 이후 고총이 확산되어 신라권 전역에 고총이 축조되는 현상을 통해 그 당시 사회의 체계를 이해할 수 있을 것이라는 생각에 논의되었던 고총체계의 관점에서 당시의 신라사회가 어떻게 구성되었는가를 찾고, 고총의 축조가 지방에서 중단되는 현상을 율령국가의 출현과 연결시켜 신라의 발전 과정을 상정하였다. 경주에 월성이 축조되고 도시화가 진행되면서 신라식목곽묘를 주체로 한 목곽묘가 적석목곽묘로 변화하면서 왕묘를 중심으로 한 고총이 축조되기 시작하였고, 이 고총이 신라가 확장되는 지역을 따라 확산되어 고총체계를 형성하였다. 이 고총의 확산 과정은 적석목곽묘를 기조로 하는 고총이 확산되는 1차적 확산과 이후 각 지역의 자체적인 묘제가 창안되어 고총으로 축조되는 2차적 확산이 감지된다. 이렇게 형성된 고총체계는 경주가 왕도로 자리함으로써, 취락-읍락-지방 소국-신라 왕도(경주)라는 4단계로 위계화된 집단의 통합이 이루어진 사회구조를 의미하여 광역정치체의 신라가 성립되었음을알려준다. 이 고총체계가 완성된 이후 삼국간의 전쟁을 비롯한 정세의 변동으로 신라는 지방의 주요 군사거점에 석성을 축조하고육부군을 중심으로 한 중앙군을 주둔시켰다. 이러한 군대의 주둔은 점차 지방 세력의 약화를 불러왔다. 이에 따라 지방의고총은 쇠퇴하고 점차 소멸되게 된다. 이러한 과정은 지방에 대한 지배가 간접지배에서 직접지배로 전환되는 결과로 이해할 수 있다.

This paper studied through literature on the assumption that Silla type of thehigh-mound tomb’s appearance and expansion, decline was the formation and development process of Silla. This paper described process thatSilla wascompleted the early state, by handling the high-mound tomb was important to the formation of urbanlandscape. Before Silla type of the high-mound tomb’s construction and on the morrow of circumstances combinedaspect of Gyeongju’s urban landscape. Since then, expand of the high-mound tomb could be appreciatedthe social order at the time. In this sense, we search how to compose Silla of those days and a developmentprocess of Silla was comprehensible in regard to occurence of the official law codes nation. It’s appearance wasconnected to phenomenon which construction of the high-mound tomb interrupted in the provinces. . Wolseong, the royal capital, was built in Gyeongju and progress of urbanization, the high-mound tomb’sconstruction began with the king’s tomb as the center figure. This tomb was transformed wooden chamber tombinto wooden outer coffin tombs with stone mound and form the high-mound tomb’s system when Silla spreadacross region. the diffusive progress of the high-mound tomb is classified between two separate spread. After the completion of the high-mound tomb system, due to the war between three nations and politicalchange, Silla built a stone castle at military positions of region and a central troops were stationed. This troops’sstation bring on weakening of the local powers. As an outcome of this tendency, the high-mound tomb of regionslowly decayed and was dissipated. This process is understandable as a result of change which control of the provinces turn from indirect rule to direct rule. .
