나태주 시의 은유 기반과 함의

Metaphor base and implications of Ra Tae-joo s poem

본고는 나태주의 텍스트를 대상으로 하여 형상화 원리로서 은유의 기반을 살피고, 은유의 함의를 구명하려는 글이다. 스스로를 전근대적 시인이라고 규정하는 나태주의 텍스트에서 가장 빈번하게 발견되는 것은 나태주가 호명하는 식물의 계열체이다. 그것은 구체적으로 풀, 풀꽃, 나무 등이다. 이중으로 소외된 타자인 식물의 계열체를 호명하면서 나태주는 타자로 전락한 자신을 발견한다. 또 인간에 대한 애정, 타자에 대한 사랑과 연민의 마음, 겸손한 합일 등을 찾아낸다. 이것을 한마디로 휴머니즘의 시정신이라 말할 수 있다. 나태주가 풀꽃의 계열체를 호명하고 있다는 사실보다 더 중요한 것은 이들을 응시하는 나태주의 위치이다. 나태주는 고착된 자신의 몸을 중심으로 풀꽃을 끌어당겨 응시하지 않는다. 나태주는 몸을 수그리어 풀꽃의 위치와 공간 안으로 자신이 이동하여 적극적으로 풀꽃을 바라보고 있다. 이러한 공간 이동은 풀꽃으로 은유화된 타자의 위치로 인간이 위치 이동을 시도하고 있다는 점에서 매우 탈근대적이라 할 수 있다. 그런 점에서 나태주가 구축한 풀꽃의 은유를 ‘수그림의 미학’이라 명명하였다. 식물의 계열체는 다양한 은유로 형상화된다. 식물의 계열체는 우선 누이와 어머니, 즉 가족에 대한 연민의 은유로 형상화된다. 또한 가까운 이웃에 대한 은유를 형성하는 기반이 되기도 한다. 이 계열체는 세계에 대한 연민의 은유로 확장되는 양상을 보인다. 식물의 은유는 삶에 대한 성찰을 형상화하는 데 기여한다. 뿐만 아니라 올바른 삶의 방향을 설정하는 데 하나의 지표 역할을 하는 은유로 형상화된다. 빈번하지는 않으나 식물의 계열체가 무애(無碍)의 진리를 형상화하는 기반이 되고 있음을 확인하였다.

This thesis aims at investigating basis of metaphors and their ultimate intention from Ra Tae-joo’s texts. One of the most frequent discoveries on texts of Ra Tae-joo, who calls himself a premodern poet, is affiliation of plants, which are concretely plant, wildflower, tree, etc. Ra Tae-joo finds himself being ‘other person’ while calling affiliation of plants, which is “double marginalized” Also, he finds affection to people, a sentiment of pity on others, humble unity, etc., which are able to be implicated as ‘poetic spirit of humanism.’ What matters is not the fact that he calls the affiliations, but Ra Tae-joo’s attention on them. Ra Tae-joo does not stare affiliations by pulling them along his body, but he looks at them by bending himself down. This breaks modern era in terms of moving himself towards others, which is “metaphor-ed” as wildflower. Therefore, metaphors by Ra Tae-joo can be named “the aesthetics of modest”. Affiliations of plants are embodied by various metaphors. First of all, affiliations are figured as metaphors of pity for family. Also, they become bases of constructing metaphors for neighbors. Furthermore, they establish metaphors for the world. Metaphors of plants contribute embodying introspection. Also, they indicate correct ways of life. Lastly, it is found that affiliations of plants form the basis of truth of infinitude.
