This study examines the structural change of trade in Korean food sector by using a global value chain (GVC) analysis. We employed a decomposition method of gross exports and used the World Input-Output Database (WIOD) from 2000 to 2014. Our results show that the GVC participation of food industry in Korea is expanding. The share of domestic value added (DVA) in food export decreased, while that of foreign value added (FVA) and pure double counting (PDC) has increased. Finally, the contribution of DVA in food export has declined in Korea for the past 15 years, since the value added via backward linkage ratio declined significantly.
