A Study of a Novel Education Plan as Social Justice Education: Focusing on Chang Kang Myoung’s “Fired”

본 연구는 사회 정의 교육으로서의 소설 교육 내용을 모색하는 데에 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 먼저 사회 정의 교육의 이론적 배경을 탐색한 후 사회 정의의 관점 및 소설 교육적 관점을 바탕으로 장강명의 <알바생 자르기>를 주요 텍스트로 삼아 분석하고, 이로부터 사회 정의 교육으로서의 소설 교육 방안을 모색하였다. 문학 작품 읽기는 독자로 하여금 타자의 삶을 상상하고 공감하도록 하는 한편 ‘공동-추론’의 장을 열어 분별 있는 관찰자의 역할을 하도록 함으로써 사회 정의를 위한 공적 감정을 형성케 한다. 사회 정의로서의 소설 교육은 문학의 이러한 속성을 적극적으로 교육내용화함으로써 학습자들이 정의로운 사회를 만들어갈 수 있는 역량을 기르게 할 수 있을 것이다. 장강명의 <알바생 자르기>는 소설의 서사 전략을 통해 목소리를 소유하지 못한 타자의 목소리에 주목하게 함으로써 사회 정의에 대한 감각을 일깨운다. 또한 이 작품은 작가의 메시지를 선명하게 드러내지 않음으로써 인물에 대한 윤리적 평가를 독자 스스로 수행하도록 인도한다. 독자들은 작품 읽기를 통해 무엇이 정의로운 것인가를 묻는 공론장 속 모색의 과정에 참여하게 된다. 본 연구는 이를 바탕으로 하여 사회 정의 교육으로서의 소설 교육 방안을 ‘소설의 수사적 장치를 경유한 윤리적 성찰’, ‘소설을 둘러싼 공론장의 활성화’로 제안하였다.

The purpose of this study is to identify novel educational contents for the realization of social justice. Using Chang Kang Myoung’s Fired as the main text, I intend to draw implications for social justice education. Literary works allow their readers to imagine and empathize with others’ lives. Moreover, by providing a “co-inference” field, the reader acts as a sensible observer, thereby forming public emotions about social justice. The novel education plan for social justice will develop the ability of learners to create a just society by actively presenting these attributes of literature as educational content. Chang Kang Myoung’s Fired awakens a sense of social justice by focusing on the previously unheard voices of others. Furthermore, this work does not clearly reveal the author’s message, leading readers to conduct their own ethical evaluations. Through the work, readers participate in an exploration process in the public sphere of what justice is. On this basis, this study proposes a novel-based education plan for social justice in the form of ethical reflection through a rhetorical device of fiction and the formation of an active public sphere surrounding the novel.
