[온라인 영어교육] English Online learning for elementary students in Gangwon province: A new approach to teaching English using e-cyber learning system

This study to focus on Gangwon province elementary schools in using technology to teach English. The year 2020 has altered the routine of daily life as we know it, and also that of the school life. The virus challenged classrooms and teachers. Under this circumstance, using technology is part of the essentials in teaching. However, preparing schools to transition to online instruction was at first a really massive undertaking for the following reasons: classrooms lacking in the necessary equipment; teachers who were not used to handling technology; and students who did not have the required devices or adult supervision available. Nevertheless, technology is making English learning more effective than before. Especially, in an EFL setting as of the Korean English classroom, technology can render invaluable services in the three respects-learning opportunities, differentiated instruction, and developing communicative competence. Although remote learning is increasingly the apparent norm, technology is just a tool, and it still can’t replace teachers. Teachers are not merely a provider of knowledge but a facilitator for students’ learning in the best possible ways. To sum up, as educators of English as a foreign language, teachers should do their thoughtful best in using this boon of technologies in English classroom.
