Kolb의 학습유형에 기초한 K대학교 학생들의 학습스타일 연구

A Quantitative Study of K University students’ learning styles based on Kolb’s learning styles theory

하나님께서는 각 사람을 다르게 창조하셨다. 학습에 있어서도 이 원리는 적용된다. 학습자들마다 선호하는 배움의 방식이 다르므로 효과적인 교육을 위해 학습의 대상자에 대한 이해가 무엇보다도 중요하다. 학습자의 특성에 대한 이해 없이 효과적인 교수방법을 찾는 것도 불가능하므로 교수자는 학습자들의 특성과 차이를 이해하는 것이 선결과제다. 콜브(Kolb)가 제시한 학습스타일은 학습자 이해에 중요한 단서를 제공한다. 그는 학습자들이 선호하는 네 가지 스타일이 있으며 이는 구체적 경험(CE), 사색적 관찰(RO), 추상적 개념화(AC), 그리고 활동적 실험(AE)으로 구성된다고 주장한다. 본 연구는 콜브(Kolb)는 학습스타일(learning style) 측정도구를 사용하여 K대학교 학생들의 학습스타일의 차이를 조사하였다. 총 222명이 본 연구에 참여하였고 설문조사방식으로 연구가 진행되었다. 연구결과 여러 가지 유의미한 결과들이 발견되었고 이에 적합한 학습방법을 제시하였다. K대학교는 남녀의 성별에 따라 학습스타일에 차이를 보였다. 또한 각 학년에 따라 차이가 있었다. 각 전공영역에 있어서도 차이를 보였다. 특히 신학전공의 경우 일반학과와의 비교를 통해 발견한 차이점은 신학교육의 방향에 대한 중요한 함의점을 보여주었다. 이러한 학습스타일의 특성의 차이에 따라 차별화된 학습전략을 세울 때 효과적인 대학교육이 가능함을 제안하였다.

God uniquely created each person, and in the same way this truth applies to learning. It is primary job for teachers to understand students’ learning styles since each learner has different way of learning. Kolb’s learning styles provided us with critical clues to understand learners. Students have different preferences in learning. In other way, they learn differently. This study investigated K university students’ learning styles by using Kolb’s learning style inventory. Several meaningful study results were found through this study, and based on study results, the researcher suggested effective ways of teaching methodologies that are available to college students. College professors and those working for structuring teaching methodologies in college classrooms consider students’ gender, school grades, and majors since these are factors that influence students’ learning styles. Specially, students in theology department showed a major difference in learning styles comparing with those in general studies. Study results will possibly contribute to develop effective teaching methodologies for college students.
