‘Crisis of Everyday Life’ and Performance of Kim Myung-hwa’s Play - Focusing on “fist-birthday party”

연극 「돐날」의 사실적인 무대와 사건은, 일상성을 무기로 개인을 통제하는 부조리한 사회 현실을 문제 삼는다. 부부의 평범한 일상은 사회와 가족이라는 구조 속에 개인이 상실해 온 것들로 채워진다. 그 일상성의 효과가 오랜 기간 개인의 몸에 체화되어온 사회적 통제와 억압을 관객이 낯설게 경험하게 한다. 이러한 작가의 전략과 의도를 이해하기 위해 이 글에서는 개인의 삶을 불안정하게 만드는 요인을 수행성의 층위에서 분석하여 관객의 의식에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 물질성을 파악하고자 한다. 김명화 희곡에서 일상성은 개인을 규제하는 권력의 기제들(사회, 문화, 계층, 자본 등)을 실체화하는 매개체로 활용된다. 집과 가정이란 사적 영역에서 포착되는 사회적 차별과 불평등을 구체적으로 보여줌으로써 ‘일상화된 폭력’과 개인의 희생을 문제 삼는다. 그래서 관객과 상호작용하는 무대효과로 일상성을 살펴보고자 한다. 관객은 공연의 주체로 극적 세계를 구현해가는 존재다. 그 관객의 의식변화를 가능케 하는 일상성은 극적 환상과 현실의 경계를 메우는 데 효과적이다. 따라서 물질성과 일상성은 김명화 희곡에 내재한 새로운 의미구조를 밝히는 데 유용한 기점이 된다.

Now, in the field of Korean theater, the discussion of performance is widely accepted. Accordingly, the play researchers have different views of the research as they are based on the fieldwork of performance, away from textualism. Because, when analyzing a play with performance text, you can understand the meaning of the actor’s body and the extreme behavior that is read to the audience. A play is an art genre that is embodied in a living human body. So the discussion of materiality allows us to look at the stage of the dramatic world and understand the aspect of the audience that embraces it. Therefore, the researcher wants to analyze Kim Myung-hwa’s play “first-birthday party” in a new way from a performance perspective. Materiality not only helps to specifically shape the dramatic world the audience experiences, but also provides a useful basis for revealing the internal semantic structure of text. Especially in this work, which takes issue with human anxiety and desire based on everyday life, one takes note of the materiality of the human body, which is being used as the sum of universal memories and experiences about home and family. Looking at the use of materiality associated with the human body, apart from the dramatic flow or event development, one can uncover dramatic factors or circumstances that significantly affect the psychological state of the audience. It also helps to explore the dynamic process of thinking and the activeness of the audience, which is accompanied by actors and actresses, as well as the role of performance
