The Writing Level of Language Expression Subjects and Characteristics Showed in their Writing - With Learners of the Department of Korean Language Education as Subjects

대학글쓰기 교과목의 수행과제 분석에서 국어교육학과 학습자들은 다음과 같은 특성을 보인다. 일반론으로 귀속되는 몰개성적이며 국가적 계몽을 염두에 둔 문장 만들기, 어느 쪽으로도 자기입장을 분명히 드러내지 않는 양시론·양비론과 같은 화법, 사회적으로 무리 없이 수용되어 온, 관습적 맥락이 존재하는 당위의 내용이 그것이다. 하지만 국어교육과 학생들은 글쓰기와 관련하여 자기 효능감이 높은 것으로 조사된다. 그 효능감은 사유하는 힘을 키워나가는 계기로 삼을 수 있을 만큼의 힘을 지닌 것은 아니다. 문제는 효능감이 높다보니 본인들의 문제를 인식하지 못하며, 변화 의지를 보이지 않는다는 데 있다. 이는 근래 사범계열 학생들이 보여주는 교사의 전문성에 대한 인식조사와 맞물려 더 큰 우려로 이어진다. 이들은 교사의 전문성이 본인의 실제 능력에서 비롯된다는 생각을 우선순위에 두지 않는다. 교사의 정체성을 옳고 그름을 가르치는 사람, 교과내용을 잘 가르치는 사람으로 인식하고 있으며, 잘 가르친다는 것은 가르치는 기술, 즉 교수법과 연관된다는 생각으로 흐르고 있기 때문이다. 국어교육학과 학생들이 보여준 일련의 수행과제들에서 포착되는 특성들도 그에 상응하는 것으로 분석된다. 글쓰기 교육의 선순환을 상상할 수 없게 하므로 심각하게 문제제기를 해야 한다.

Through the analysis of performance assignments of the subject of college writing, it is found that the learners of the department of Korean language education show the following characteristics: Their works tend to lack personality and are written in generalities; their use of sentences that seem to consider the enlightenment at a national level resemble those seen in textbooks; their arguments are from gray fallacy in which they don t clearly express their opinion to either side; and their works are based on ideas that have been widely accepted in the society. However, it is found that students of the department of Korean language education have a high level of self-efficacy in writing. The efficacy is not powerful enough that they make use of it as a momentum to grow their own ability to think over objects reasonably, while intellectually enjoying counterargument, criticism, and questions raised during their writing classes. However, important downside of having high self-efficacy is that they don’t perceive their own problems and don t show any volition to change. This undesirable situation can lead to larger concerns in connection with recent surveys in which students of college of education appreciate the professionalism of teachers. Students don t see the idea as one of the priorities that the professionalism of teachers comes from the teachers’ own real abilities. Rather, they are convinced that a teacher is a person who teaches what is right and what is wrong and who skillfully teaches what subjects are all about. Thus, they believe that high level of teaching ability is directly connected to the teacher’s teaching technique, namely, pedagogics. It is also analyzed that characteristics found in a series of performance assignments of students of the department of Korean language education correspond to their belief. Therefore, it is necessary to raise a serious question in that we cannot imagine a virtuous cycle of writing education due to these problems.
