Implementation and Evaluation of WAC(Writing Across of Curriculum)

글쓰기 교육이 1학년 학생을 주 대상으로 하여 한 번 이루어지기에 효과를 충분히 보고 있지 않다는 반성적 검토가 ‘전공 연계 글쓰기’의 실행 배경이었다. ‘전공 연계 글쓰기’를 시행하는 방식은 두 가지인데, 교과 과정과 비교과 프로그램이 그것이다. ‘전공 연계 글쓰기’를 교과 과정으로 시행되는 것은 바람직하다. 안정성과 지속성은 물론, 효율성 제고를 보장해 줄 수 있기 때문이다. 그러나 시행되기에는 여러 난관이 도사리고 있다. 이에 차선책으로 비교과 프로그램으로 실행하는 경우가 대부분이다. 단시일에 실행할 수 있으며, 많은 협의 과정을 피할 수 있다는 면에서 효율적이다. 홍익대학교 세종캠퍼스는 교수학습지원센터에서 <전공 연계 글쓰기 능력 개선> 프로그램을 2016년 2학기에 시범적으로, 적은 예산으로, 비교적 작은 규모로 시행하였다. 2017년 1학기에는 확대 실시하였다. 애초에 여러 무리함을 감수하고, 비교적 작은 규모나마 시행을 했던 이유는 자료를 축적하고 전공 교수에게 글쓰기 교육의 효율성을 각인시키고자 하는 데에 있었다. 그래서 궁극에는 교과 과정으로 시행해야 할 필요가 있음을 뒷받침할 근거를 마련하고자 하였다. 여러 작은 보람과 성과를 보였지만, 전공 교수와 첨삭 교수의 만족을 끌어내는 데에는 부족하였다. ‘전공 연계 글쓰기’ 운영의 궁극적 목적이라 할 수 있는 교과 과정 속으로의 편입이 한결 수월해질 수 있기 위해서는 치밀한 계획과 꾸준한 시행이 필요하다.

Writing education focuses on first grade students. Writing education is performed only once. So the effect is not enough. This was the background for the execution of WAC. There are two ways to implement WAC : Curriculum, Extracurricular program. It is desirable to conduct WAC as a curriculum . It is because they can guarantee stability, sustainability and efficiency. However, implementation is difficult. So, most of them are executed by extracurricular program. It can be implemented in a short period of time and is efficient in that it avoids many negotiation processes. In the second semester of 2016, the Sejong Campus of Hongik University conducted a WAC program at CTL(Center for Teaching & Learning). Budget and scale were small. And expanded in the first semester of 2017. In the beginning, the reason for the small scale implementation was to accumulate the data and to impose the efficiency of the writing education to the major professor. Therefore, the ultimate goal is to provide a basis for supporting the need for curriculum implementation. Although it showed various merits and achievements, it was not enough to bring out the satisfaction of the major professor and the instructor of Writing. In order to make it easier to incorporate into the curriculum, which is the ultimate goal of WAC, it is necessary to carry out thorough planning and steady implementation.
