Reading Narrative Strategy and Meaning in A Dreamy Incubator Park Wan-seo

본고는 박완서의 <꿈꾸는 인큐베이터>를 대상으로 어떻게 읽을 것인가의 문제를 재고하고자 한다. 이에 작품을 읽어내는 토도로프의 몇 가지 전략을 그 방법론으로 삼아 ‘읽기’를 시도하였다. 박완서의 <꿈꾸는 인큐베이커>의 외적 서사는 가부장제 이데올로기의 폭력성이라고 볼 수 있다. 이 외적 서사는 주로 ‘나의 이야기’를 통해서 드러난다. 여기에‘그’가 등장하며, 외적 서사에 균열이 발생한다. 그 균열의 틈으로 ‘나’의 내적 서사가 진행된다. 모성본능까지도 억제하며, 영아 살해에 동참했던 나는 내가 인큐베이터에 지나지 않았음을 스스로 고백한다. 그것은 욕망에 몸을 맡긴 가장 추하고 비참한 모습이었다. 사회적 인습이나 그릇된 도덕관념에 그 모든 책임을 전가하고, 피해자를 자처한다고 나의 죄의식이 사라지는 것은 아니다. 그러나 내적 서사를 들여다보면 그것이 온전히 외적 요인에그 책임을 전가할 수 없게 된다. 가부장제 사회의 욕망-아들을 통한 대 잇기-에당당히 맞서지 못한 나의 책임도 있다. 그리고 ‘여아 살해’의 공범자 남편들의 무심함에도 그 원인을 물을 수 있어야 한다. 문제의 핵심은 외부에 있는 것이 아니라나(우리)에게 있는 것이다. 그것을 바꿀 수 있는 주체도 나이다. 능동적 독자(학습자)의 역할은 문학 작품이 말하고자 하는 무엇인가를 찾는 것이아니다. 그 말하는 바를 어떻게 읽어낼 것인가가 관건이다. 지금은 능동적으로 사고하고 그것을 어떻게 표현할 것인가가 교육 목표의 지향점이 되고 있는 시대이다.
