이공계열 대학 신입생의 자기소개서 쓰기는 이공계 글쓰기의 특성을 반영해야 하며, 효과적 의사 표현을 원하는 학생들의 요구도 수렴하여야 한다. 따라서 자기탐색을 통해 자신을 발견하고 일단쓰기를 통해 그것을 풀어내었다. 다음은 독자를 사로잡을 수 있는 문단으로 수정하는 과정을 거쳤다. 이렇게 삶의 자세, 성격의 장점, 학창생활에서 열정적 경험, 미래에 하고 싶은 일로 이루어진 네 문단의 자기소개서를 완성하였다. 그리고 조원끼리 돌려 읽으며 서로 응원의 댓글을 달아주는 것으로 마무리했다. 이 과정에서 학생들은 자신을 긍정적으로 바라보며 미래를 희망적으로 설계하는 한편 상대를 설득하는 글쓰기 방법도 익힐 수 있었다. 이 사례는 이공계 대학 신입생의 자기소개서 쓰기를 지도하면서 겪었던 여러 어려움을 해결해나가는 과정에서 모색한 것이다. 따라서 완성형이 아니라 보완이 필요한 진행형이다.
