A search for New Methods of Academic Writing Composition Education

대학 글쓰기 교육의 필요성 및 실효성에 관한 어려움들을 해결하기 위해 본고에서는 세 가지를 제안했다. 먼저 학생 글쓰기 이력 추적 시스템을 구축할 것을 제안했는데, 간단히 말해 대학에 입학한 학생이 교과 과정 중에 제출한 모든 글들을 시간순서대로 온라인상에 모아두자는 것이다. 이것을 통해 글쓰기 교육의 학습 성과를 한 학기 과정뿐만 아니라 대학 전 교과 과정을 통해 확인할 수 있게 될 것이며, 학생들이 대학 재학 중에 어떤 종류의 글들을 작성하고 있는지를 구체적으로 파악할 수 있게 될 것이다. 한편 글쓰기 교과 과정의 운용에서 가장 문제가 되는 것은 교수자에 따라 다소 임의적으로 학생들에 대한 교육과 평가가 이루어지고 있다는 점이다. 일관된 체계를 갖춘 새로운 평가 시스템을 개발하고 이를 통해 각 분반 간의 자율적인 평가 방식을 보완하도록 한다면 학술적 글쓰기의 개념에 대한 교과 과정 참가자들의 최소한의 합의를 이끌어낼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 보다 안정적인 학술적 글쓰기 교육이 행해질 수 있을 것이다. 마지막으로 범교과적 글쓰기WAC 프로그램의 도입이 필요한데, 이는 별도의 교양과목으로서만 글쓰기를 가르치는 것이 아니라 전공 과정 혹은 다른 일반교양 선택 과목에서도 글쓰기를 가르치는 것을 뜻한다. 전공 교수자들은 전공지식을 전달하고 글쓰기 교수자들은 학생들이 각각의 학술적 공동체가 요구하는 담화 관습에 적합한 표상을 구성할 수 있도록 돕자는 것이다. 요컨대 WAC 프로그램을 통한 학술적 글쓰기 교육은 학생들이 장차 다양한 장르에 적응할 수 있는 능력을 길러주는 것이다.

The purpose of this article is to propose the system for university composition education. A study on the means of university composition education has been focused on two problems. The problem whether knowledge and skills students learned through the composition education transfer when writing in other contexts, and the problem of how to reconstruct the educational contents of the composition education when not fully transferred. In this article, three systems for these problems are proposed. First, On-line system to save all students articles. Second, the system for developing advanced assessment methods. And the last, Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program. To do good work these systems must cooperate indispensably with Writing Center which is the subject of its plan and administration.
