소통과 배려를 위한 독서와 글쓰기 수업 사례 연구

Reading and writing for communication and consideration - New approach of university liberal education

본 연구는 글로벌 시대에 교양인이 갖추어야 할 윤리적 태도를 익히고, 사회의 구성원으로서 소통과 배려를 실천하기 위한 독서와 글쓰기 수업 방안을 모색하였다. 수업은 간이 수업(mini lesson), 독서와 토론, 정보 찾기와 글쓰기, 출판하기의 순서로 이루어지는데, 본 연구에서는 생태·환경 문제와 소수자 문제를 모색하는 독서와 글쓰기 수업 사례를 소개하였다. 학생들은 공감하며 읽는 데에 집중하였고, 토의를 통해 여러 가지 좋은 의견을 발표하였다. 환경에 관해서는 소비와 탐욕을 절제하는 삶, 후손에 대한 배려, 생태 환경과 소비 문제 등에 대해 진지한 의견을 내어주었다. 소수자 문제에 관해서는 다름을 인정하는 것, 비주류 문화, 성소수자들의 기본권, 다문화 가정 어린이, 가난, 노인 문제, 나눔의 진정한 의미에 대해서 고민하고 비평적 에세이 쓰기를 하였다. 이로써 학생들은 평소 사회와 세계에 대해 느꼈던 다양한 이야기를 교수자, 동료와 나누면서 진지한 성찰의 시간을 가졌다. 교수자는 독서와 글쓰기를 마무리 하면서 배려의 가장 좋은 방법은 ‘실천’과 ‘봉사임’을 강조하였다. 타인을 위해 우선 순위를 재조정하고 자신의 시간을 기꺼이 내어주는 것, 지속적인 관심이 배려의 실천에 꼭 필요한 덕목임을 알게 되었다. 학생들은 독서와 글쓰기를 통해서 기본적인 읽기, 쓰기 능력을 향상시켰을 뿐만 아니라 소통과 배려에 대해 새로운 인식을 갖게 되는 계기가 되었으며, 교수자, 동료와 의견을 나누면서 깊은 유대감도 가지게 되었다. 이 수업이 보다 긍정적으로 변화하려면 독서 후 진행되는 비평적 에세이 쓰기에서 실천과 봉사, 나눔의 구체적인 방법을 찾아서, 이를 실천해 본 결과나 사례를 제시해 보는 것이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 대학에서 요구하는 기본적인 글쓰기의 형식과 이를 위한 탐구 과정에 ‘실천’과 ‘결실’이라는 덕목을 접목하여 자기 자신과 이를 둘러싼 타인, 세계에 대해 진지하게 고민하고 지식인으로서의 올바른 태도를 함양할 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다.

The objective of this study is to learn the ethical attitudes as educated person in this global age. This study seeks a way to practice communication and consideration as member of society. The lecture is composed of mini lesson, reading and discussion, information search, writing and publishing, This research also introduced reading and writing examples for problems of ecological environments and minorities. Student focused on reading sympathetically, discussed and presented their various good opinions. For environmental problem, students suggested opinions for moderate life, consideration for descendant, ecological environment and consumption problem. For minority issue, students considered and wrote essay for minority culture, basic right of sexual minority, children of multicultural family, poverty, the problem of the aged and sharing. By talking about various opinion for the society and the world with professor and colleagues, students hereby could take some time for serious introspection. Professor emphasized that the best way for consideration is practice and service. By taking this reading and writing course, students improved their reading and writing ability. They also have a chance to get new recognition for communication and consideration. If we want to make positive changes with this course, it is necessary to present practice results or examples after students find the detailed way of practice, service and sharing during the essay writing.
