융복합 시대의 이공계생을 위한 글쓰기 교육

Writing education for natural sciences and engineering students in a multidisciplinary era

이 연구는 주요 대학의 이공계 글쓰기 교육 현황과 글쓰기 교육에 대한 이공계 학생들의 인식을 살펴보고자 했다. 이를 바탕으로 융복합 시대의 이공계 글쓰기 교육의 방향을 모색해 보았다. 이공계생을 위한 별도의 글쓰기 교육을 하고 있는 대학의 교육 내용을 살펴보면, 전반부에서는 글쓰기의 공통된 내용을 가르치고, 후반부에서 실험보고서나 연구논문 등과 같은 이공계 글쓰기를 가르치는 경향이 있었다. 그리고 이공계 학생들은 글쓰기 교육이 중요하다고 인식하고 있었으며, 특화된 이공계 글쓰기보다는 글쓰기의 기본을 배울 수 있는 교육을 필요로 하고 있었다. 이 연구에서는 융복합 시대의 이공계생을 위한 바람직한 교양 글쓰기 교육 방안으로 계열별로 특화된 글쓰기 교육보다는 글쓰기의 기본에 충실한 교육을 제공하는 방안을 제시했다. 그리고 실험보고서나 연구논문과 같은 전문적인 글쓰기는 전공 영역에서 담당교수가 담당할 수 있는 제도적 기반이 마련되어야 함을 제안했다.

This study examined the present conditions of writing education for natural sciences and engineering students in major universities, as well as the natural sciences and engineering students’ perception of writing education. Based on this, the study tried to find the direction of writing education for natural sciences and engineering students in a multidisciplinary era. Looking into the education contents of universities that have separate writing education for natural sciences and engineering students, we found that they have a tendency to teach common contents of writing in the first half, then in the latter half natural sciences and engineering writing such as lab reports or research theses, etc. And natural sciences and engineering students considered writing education important, and needed education from which they can learn the basics of writing rather than specialized natural sciences and engineering writing. This study suggests providing an education that’s rich in writing basics rather than a writing education specialized for each department. It also proposes arranging an institutional framework that allows professors in charge of a particular major or field to take charge of specialized writing such as lab reports and research theses.
