작가의식을 기르는 글쓰기 워크숍

Writing Workshop to enhance Authorship

이 연구에서는 대학생들을 대상으로 글쓰기 워크숍을 실시하고 그 결과물과 글쓰기의 과정에 대한 학생들의 인식을 분석하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 글쓰기 워크숍은 학생들의 ‘작가 의식’을 강화하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있다. 글쓰기 워크숍에서는 학생들 스스로 글의 주제와 장르를 선택하고 수정과 편집을 하기 때문에 글에 대한 애착이 크고 책임감도 크게 느낀다. 둘째, 글쓰기 워크숍은 학생들이 글쓰기의 과정 전반에 대한 지식과 전략을 익히는데 도움이 된다. 글쓰기 워크숍에서는 주제와 장르 선정 - 초고쓰기 -수정하기와 같은 글쓰기의 과정을 계속해서 반복하기 때문에 글쓰기의 과정에 대한 지식과 경험을 확대할 수 있다. 셋째, 글쓰기 워크숍은 협력적 의사소통의 중요성을 깨닫게 하는데 도움을 준다. 학생들은 동료나 교사의 반응과 피드백을 통해서 자신의 글을 개선할 수 있는 아이디어를 얻기 때문에 혼자서는 결코 쓸 수 없는 수준 높은 글을 쓸 수 있다. 넷째, 글쓰기 워크숍은 주제에 대한 깊이 있는 탐구를 가능하게 한다. 글쓰기 워크숍에서는 한 편의 글을 완성하는데 많은 시간을 투자하여 계속해서 수정하고 탐구하기 때문에 생각의 깊이가 더욱 깊어져 글의 질이 향상된다. 글쓰기 워크숍은 학생들의 자발성에 기초한 학생중심의 활동이지만 교사의 체계적인 계획과 지도와 학생들의 자발적인 활동의 균형이 확보될 때, 글쓰기 워크숍의 효과는 극대화될 수 있다.

This study analyzed college students’ perceptions on their writing processes and the written products from writing workshops. Writing workshops helped college students to reinforce their authorship. Students who joined writing workshops in this study developed strong responsibilities because they selected their own topics and genres and had opportunities to communicate with the readers through publications. Second, writing workshops also encouraged students to enhance knowledge and strategies having various sharing and discussion throughout the whole processes of writing from planning to editing. Third, students produced higher quality of writing based on feedbacks from peers and the teacher as the effect of collaborative communication. Finally, students deepened their thoughts and elaborated their writings joining the writing workshops. The effects of writing workshops could be maximized when the teacher systematically planned the activity and the students voluntarily participated in it, though writing workshop was basically a student-centered activity.
