학문 목적 한국어 학습자를 위한 뉴스 리터러시 교육 방안 연구

Method for Instructing Korean for Academic Purposes Learners in News Literacy

본 연구는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 뉴스 리터러시 향상을 위한 교육 방안을 제 시하는 것을 목적으로 K대학교에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생 20명을 대상으로 한 학 기동안 뉴스 리터러시 수업을 진행하였다. 뉴스 리터러시 수업을 위해 강용철, 정형 근, 엄미리, 박수진, 한유승, 조혜령, 노효빈(2017)이 개발한 ‘뉴스Talk 뉴스를 만나 다! 미래를 만나다!’ 교재의 내용과 활동을 기본적으로 수업에 활용하되 수업 활동에 서 다룰 뉴스는 학습 내용과 학습자들을 고려하여 선택하였고, 필요에 따라 최근 자 료로 대체하였다. 뉴스 리터러시 교육의 효과를 알아보기 위해 양정애, 김반야, 박한 철, 강용철(2018)의 연구 보고서의 뉴스 리터러시 지수 측정 도구를 활용하여 사전-사 후 학습자 설문을 진행하였다. 설문 분석 결과, 핵심 성취기준1-7은 모두 통계적으로 p<.05 수준에서 유의미한 것으로 나타났으나 핵심 성취기준4의 하위 항목 중 뉴스를 활용한 진로탐색(미래계획) 항목은 유의미하지 않은 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 대상자의 수가 제한적이고, 광범위하고 방대한 양의 뉴스 리터러시 교육 내용 전반을 다 다루지 못한 한계가 있으나 이전까지 한국어 교육에서 시도되지 않았 던 뉴스 리터러시 교육 방안을 제시하고, 교육적 효과를 살펴보았다. 이는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자를 위한 뉴스 리터러시 교육 과정 개발을 위한 기초적 자료가 될 수 있 을 것이다.

A study was conducted of a semester-long news literacy class of 20 foreign students attending K University with the aim of presenting education measures to improve the news literacy of Korean for Academic Purposes(KAP) learners. For limited time of news literacy class, I selected subjects and activities from the book News Talk, Meet the News!, Meet the Future! developed by Kang Yong-chul et al. To measure the effects of news literacy education, pre/post surveys were conducted using the News Literacy Index Measurement Tool from the study of Yang Jung-ae et al.(2018). The results of the surveys indicated that core performance criteria 1-7 were statistically significant at the p <.05 level; however, it was found that the items of exploring careers through the news were not significant within the sub-items of core performance criterion 4. This study presented a limited number of students and hindered by covering a considerable amount of news literacy education, but no study of Korean language education has previously examined these educational effects. This study could serve as material for developing news literacy courses for KAP learners.
