An Analysis on the Cultural Inheritance of Overseas Chinese Children - Focusing on the New Generation of Overseas Chinese in South Korea

젊은 신세대 화교 자녀들은 중화 문화의 전승에 있어서 중요한 역할을 하며 중국에 있어서도 재외 신세대 화교 자녀들은 큰 의미가 있다. 본 논문은 한국에 거주하는 화교 신세대 자녀들을 대상으로 한 대면 인터뷰와 기존 선행 논문에 대한 조사를 병행하여 해외 거주 신세대 화교들이 겪는 ‘이문화 마찰(异文化摩擦)’을 고찰하고 그 속에서 성장하는 과정을 살펴보고자 한다. 이들은 아버지 세대로부터 중화 문화를 계승하는 한편, 해당 거주국 주류 문화가 공존하는 이문화 마찰 속에서 언어를 학습하고 가치관을 형성하게 된다. 본 저자는 부모세대의 중화 문화와 해당 거주국의 문화를 충돌없이 조화롭게 습득시킬 수 있도록 하는 열쇠는 부모세대의 관심과 교육이라고 판단한다. 중국인 화교 자녀들은 부모로부터 지속적으로 중화 문화를 교육받는 한편, 해당 국가의 문화를 습득하고 있다. 신세대 자녀들의 여러 가지 문화를 받아들이려는 노력과 부모세대로부터의 적절한 관심과 교육이 지속된다면 신세대 자녀들은 이문화 마찰을 기회로 세계를 보낸 넓은 시야를 가지게 될 것이다.

The young generation plays an essential role in the inheritance of Chinese culture. The children living abroad are also vital for the country. Performing interviews and other forms of investigation, targeting young new generations of Korean-Chinese and Chineses living overseas, it has been explored the growth progress of these group of people in the environment of ‘Intercultural friction’. The paper discusses languages acquisition and values formation in the environment where parental culture and mainstream social culture overlap. The writer emphasizes that the keys for newborn overseas Chinese to reconcile Chinese culture and the culture of the host country are the education from their Chinese family and attention of their parents. While receiving education from their parents, the children of overseas Chinese learn from the teachings of the host country’s culture. They should devote to accept multiple cultures and make Chinese culture more compatible with ‘different cultures’, and gradually form a more diverse and broader world vision.
