대학의 영어읽기 수업을 위한 협동학습 사례연구

A Study on Cooperative Learning for University English Reading Class

본 논문의 목적은 대학의 영어읽기 수업에서 협동학습을 실시한 후 수업모형과 수업운영에 있어서 개선점을 연구하는 것이다. 연구대상은 2018년 2학기 Practical English Listening and Reading 과목 2개 분반의 수강생 53명이다. 연구도구는 학생들의 조별활동에 대한 수업 중 관찰과 학기말에 실시한 설문이다. 설문의 객관식 문항은 빈도수와 퍼센트로 분석하였고, 주관식 문항은 핵심어를 바탕으로 분석하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 협동학습 모형에서는 학교에 LMS에 예습한 결과물을 올리는 예습 가산점 제도와 읽기활동의 이원화--읽기활동을 개인 활동과 조별활동으로 나누고 활동지 역시 개인의 답과 조별 답 모두를 작성하게 하는 방식—를 개선점으로 도출하였다. 수업운영 면에서는 동료평가 제도를 실시함으로써 학생들이 조별활동에서 개인 책무를 깨닫게 하고 교수자로 하여금 조별활동에 소극적인 학생을 파악하여 개별적으로 지도를 할 수 있게 하는 방안과 우연에 의해 조별로 좌석이 고정됨으로 인한 불이익을 최소화하기 위하여 조별 좌석과 조 안에서의 개인 좌석을 주기적으로 변경하는 방식을 제안하였다.

This study investigates the improvements in a cooperative learning model and its management strategy for university English reading class. To this end, group reading activities were implemented in two Practical English Listening and Reading classes during the second semester of 2018. The instructor observed the classes and a survey was conducted on 53 students. The collected data was analyzed in frequency and percentage for multiple choice questions and in keyword for open-ended questions. Based on the result, first, extra points for pre-reading are suggested, which are given to the students who upload their preview reading outcomes on the school LMS and second, dual mode for reading activity is suggested, where students carry out the activity both individually and in group while writing both activity outcomes on the same sheet. Regarding the management, for students’ better engagement in group activity, peer evaluation is suggested, which is utilized for instructors to identify passive students and for students to be better aware of individual accountability. Also periodical rotation of groups’ seat and individual seat within a group is suggested to minimize the disadvantage from the accidentally fixed seat of each group and its members in the classroom.
