현금흐름표 교육방법에 관한 연구

A Study on Education Method for Cash Flow

[연구목적] 많은 실증연구에서 현금주의에 기초한 현금흐름정보의 중요성이 제기되고 있고, 교과서에도 현금흐름표가 하나의 독립된 장으로 구성되어 있음에도 불구하고 중급회계 수업시간에는 현금흐름표에 대한 구체적인 작성방법을 설명하지 않고 있는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 간단한 예제를 통해 명제를 설정하고 이 명제가 참인가, 거짓인가를 검증하는 방법을 통하여 학생들의 이해와 교수자의 강의에 도움이 될 수 있는 현금흐름표 교육방법을 제시하고자 한다. [연구방법] 본 연구는 이를 위하여 『현금흐름표는 현금주의로 작성한 손익계산서이다.』라는 명제를 설정하고 제시된 사례의 거래내역을 현금주의에 기초한 복식부기 방식의 분개를 이용해 손익계산서를 작성한 후 기준서에 제시된 현금흐름표의 표시방법에 맞춰 손익계산서를 작성하면 직접법으로 작성한 현금흐름표가 된다는 사실을 보여 주었다. [연구결과] 본 연구의 결과는 발생주의에 의한 당기순이익에서 출발하여 현금주의에 기초한 복식부기 방식의 분개와 발생주의에 기초한 분개의 차이를 조정하면 역시 간접법으로 작성한 현금흐름표가 된다는 사실을 제시하였다. 이러한 설명을 통해 설정된 명제가 참이라는 사실을 증명함으로써 학습자가 용이하게 현금흐름표의 작성방법을 습득하는 방법을 제시하였다. [연구의 시사점] 발생주의에 기초한 손익계산서는 합리적인 기간손익의 배분을 통해 보다 정확한 회사의 경영성과를 보여주기 위한 목적을 가진 재무제표이고, 현금흐름표는 현금주의에 기초한 손익계산서로서 발생주의에 비해 정확한 경영성과를 보여주지는 못하지만 계속기업의 가정이 의심되는 상황에서 발생주의 회계에서 산출된 당기순이익과 함께 유용한 정보로 활용될 수 있다는 사실을 학생들에게 이해하기 쉽게 설명할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 본 연구는 재무회계 교육과정에서 상대적으로 소홀히 취급 되는 현금흐름표 작성을 위한 교육방법을 사례를 통해 제시하였다.

[Purpose] Many empirical studies suggest the importance of cash flow information based on cash basis, but accounting information users do not know much about this due to the lack of statistical knowledge. [Methodology] This study proves the hypothesis that “Statement of cash flow is income statement created on cash basis” in other to fill this knowledge gap. Using cash basis, we journalized the transactions of a case, and then prepared both income statement and cash flow statement. The result proves that the statement of cash flow prepared using the direct method is a cash based income statement. We also examined this using the indirect method of statement of cash flow and was also found to be same. [Findings] This paper suggests that the income statement based on accrual is important, but in a situation where it may lead to distortion of accounting information, the statement of cash flow which is a cash based income statement has a relative value relevance. [Implications] Through this empirical evidence we recommend the usefulness of the statement of cash flow to users of accounting information who may overlook its importance.
