에코뮤지엄의 이상에 입각한 ≪돈화문마을박물관≫의 의의

The Significance of Donhwamun Village Museum Based on the Ecomuseum Ideal

한류의 근원지 서울은 조선의 한양이라는 오백년 역사를 간직한 터전 위에 건설된 역사문화도시임에도 불구하고, 역사적 환경의 보존이나 계승에 대해서 관심을 기울이기보다 경제 논리에 입각한 개발과 현대화로 인하여 분주하였다. 서울은 그동안 건설이 아니면 낙후라는 논리로 지역을 개발하여왔다. 본 연구는 유네스코 세계문화유산인 창덕궁과 종묘가 인접한 곳이나 아직도 방치되어 있는 돈화문로의 지역문화자원을 조사하고, 최근 이 지역에서 발생한 주민주도의 지역문화 운동인《돈화문마을박물관》의 활동을 분석하였다. 본 프로젝트의 실행과정을 제라드 코세인(Gerard Corsane)의 에코뮤지엄의 이상에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 마을박물관이 추구한 것은 지속 가능한 개발을 촉진시키고, 무형문화유산을 보존과 개발에 관심을 갖고 있으며, 조선시대로부터 근대를 거쳐 현대에 이르는 주민들의 삶, 이곳에 남아있는 환경과의 상호작용을 기록하려고 노력한 점과 각 사이트의 역사와 활동 내용에 대해서도 관심을 갖고 주민의 참여를 독려한 점에서 에코뮤지엄의 이상에 부합함을 발견하였다. 그러므로 《돈화문마을박물관》은 이 지역의 문화를 조선시대에 동결시키는 것이 아니라, 근대에서 현대로 넘어오는 모든 시간의 연속성에 초점을 맞추었고 미래를 조망하고자 한 점에서 의의가 있다.

Seoul, the origin of Korean Wave(Hallu) is the historic and cultural city built on the site of the 500-year history of Hanyang in Chosun Dynasty. However, the city has been busy due to the development and modernization based on economic logic rather than paying attention to the preservation and succession of the historic environment. Seoul has been developing the region with the logic of being underdeveloped if it is not construction. This study surveyed the local cultural resources of Donhwamun-ro still neglected even if Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo, selected as the world cultural heritages of UNESCO, are located near and also analyzed the activity of Donhwamun Village Museum which is the local cultural activities led by residents that have recently occurred in this area. The execution progress of this project was analyzed based on the discussion about the ideal of ecomuseum of Gerard Corsane. As a result of analysis, we found that what the village museum pursued is that they tried to boost the sustainable development and pay attention to the preservation and development of intangible cultural heritages and record the living of the residents from Chosun Dynasty to the Modern and the Contemporary times and the interaction with the remained environment in this area, and it encouraged the residents to participate in the activity by paying attention to the history and activities of each site which was matched with the ideal of ecomuseum. The significance of Donhwamun Village Museum is not to freeze the culture of this area just in Chosun Dynasty but focused on the continuity of all the time from the modern times to the contemporary times and prospect the future.
