본고는 대중가요 가사(歌詞)의 작사법을 모색해 본 시론적인 글로서, 노랫말을 형식적인 면에서 정형시에 상응하는 정형 가사와 자유시에 상응하는 자유 가사로 분류하여 살펴보았다. 아울러 내용적인 면에서 서정시에 상응하는 서정가사와 서사시와 극시에 상응하는 서사가사로 분류하여 살펴보았다. 나아가 대중가요 가사의 주제를 이끌어내는 화제(話題)와 가사의 형식, 그리고 표현방법과 미의식 등의 형상화 요소를 분석함으로써 작사법의 개략을 살펴보았다. 이어서 서정적인 가사는 작자의 내면세계를 그리는 작품이라는 점에서 서정시와 큰 차이가 없지만, 서사 가사는 소설과 희곡을 절충한 드라마 형식의 가사라는 점을 밝혀 작사법의 실제를 위한 기틀을 세워 보고자 하였다. 끝으로 실제로 작사를 창작하기 위해서 필자가 고안한 스토리 보드(story board)를 바탕으로, 인물·스토리·무대·공감적 결말이라는 4대 요소를 활용할 것을 제안하였다. 나아가 기성 작품을 분석함으로써, 이러한 4대 요소를 이용하여 효율적으로 작사를 하는 방법을 연역법적으로 제시하였다.
This study aims to identify the methodology involved in writing lyrics of popular songs, and determines words of songs by categorizing them into fixed lyrics that correspond to fixed verses and free lyrics that correspond to free verses in the formative aspect. Additionally, this study identifies content types by classifying lyrical lyrics corresponding to lyric poetry and narrative lyrics corresponding to narrative poetry. Moreover, it examines the outlines of the lyrics by analyzing elements of imagery such as expression method and aesthetic consciousness, and the format of lyrics and issues that elucidate topics of popular song lyrics. Furthermore, this study endeavors to build a foundation for the actuality of lyric-writing methods by clarifying that narrative lyrics are drama-type lyrics that compromise novels and plays, while lyrical lyrics are not vastly different from lyrical poetry because they both depict the author’s inner world. Lastly, based on the storyboard designed to write lyrics, it suggests using the four elements: character, story, stage, and emphatic ending. By analyzing those already established works, the method of efficiently writing lyrics using these four elements was presented in deductive ways.
