Dialogue serves many functions in films one of which is to convey information about the storyline and also the dynamics of interpersonal relations between characters. The dialogues is often fabricated with the intention to serve a purpose in the development of the story as well as emphasize interpersonal emotions such as affinity, conflict, jealousy and hierarchy between characters. In audiovisual translation(AVT), however, some of the information depicted in dialogues get lost in the interlingual conversion due to several factors: the translator needs to be economical in expression due to the spacial and time constraints inherent in AVT and the linguistic, pragmatic and cultural disparity in source and target language act as obstacles in conveying information. The purpose of this study is to examine the dialogues in one of the Korean movies, Face Reader, to analyze the AVT of interpersonal dynamics conveyed in source and target languages dialogues. Comparison of the dialogues revealed that interpersonal dynamics is often not transferred in whole in subtitles but still communication is achieved because the dialogue is complemented by the image and sound effects in the movie.
