The Study on the Effects of Product Life Cycle Costing on the Environmental Performance of a Firm

본 연구는 제품 수명주기 원가시스템의 환경성과 개선 효과를 입증하기 위해 탐색적으로 수행되었다. 먼저, 제품 수명주기 원가시스템 도입에 영향을 미치는 요인들이 규명되었다. 환경경영 기법들 도입에 영향을 미치는 요인들 중 외부적 요인인 모방압력과 적극적 환경경영 전략의 채택이 유의한 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 경쟁기업들이나 선도 기업들이 환경경영을 위해 제품 수명주기 원가시스템을 도입하는 경우, 이것이 산업 내 다른 기업들의 도입을 종용하게 된다는 것이다. 그리고 제조 기업이 자체적으로 환경보호를 위한 적극적 환경경영 전략을 채택하는 경우에도 이를 실행하기 위한 수단으로서 제품 수명주기 원가시스템 도입이 활발히 이루어질 수 있다는 것이다. 제품 수명주기 원가시스템 도입에 대한 적극적 환경경영 전략을 통한 외부적 요인과 정부규제의 간접 영향을 검증한 결과, 모방압력과 정부규제의 간접 영향이 유의적이었다. 제품 수명주기 원가시스템의 녹색 협력과 정보공유에 대한 영향 분석에서는 유의한 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 결국, 제품 수명주기 원가시스템이 실행되면서 환경 부문에서 공급자들과의 협력이 촉진되고 이들과의 빈번한 환경관련 정보교류 또한 수반된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 환경성과에 대한 제품 수명주기 원가시스템과 녹색 협력 및 정보공유의 영향 분석에서는 이들이 모두 유의한 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 마지막으로 , 환경성과는 생산성과와 매출액 이익률에 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

This study made an exploratory investigation to the effects of product life cycle costing(PLCC) on the improvement of environmental performance in manufacturing firms. First, we empirically examined the influence factors on the adoption of PLCC. The results of regression analyses showed that imitation pressure and proactive environmental management strategy(PEMS) have a positive impact on the adoption of PLCC. These results implies that the usage of PLCC by leading firms facilitates the adoption of PLCC by other following companies, and firms that employ PEMS adopt PLCC as the realization mechanism of PEMS. The effects of influence factors on the adoption of PLCC through PEMS were also empirically investigated. From the mediated regression analyses, it was observed that governmental regulation and imitation pressure have an indirect impact on the adoption of PLCC through PEMS. The positive influence of PLCC on the green cooperation and information sharing with suppliers were also empirically demonstrated with multiple regression analysis. According to the results, it was found that PLCC as well as the green cooperation and information sharing with suppliers positively influence the improvement of environmental performance. Finally, the results showed that the improvement of environmental performance contributes to the increase of production performance.
