金枓奉은 일제강점기 저명한 한글학자이자 항일독립운동가였다. 해방 후에는 延安派를 대표하는 정치인의 한 명으로서 명망이 높았지만 지도적인 인물로 추앙받지 못하였다. 한편, 연안파는 활동 지역을 본뜬 명칭이었지만 엄밀하게 볼 때, 정파적 일체감이나 구성원들 사이에 동질성을 향유할 만한 유대감은 형성되지 못하였다. 연안파의 인적 구성은 다양한 학맥과 地緣, 인맥을 바탕으로 하였고 결속력이 느슨한 정파적 속성을 지니고 있었다. 북한 정권 초기부터 김두봉은 친김일성노선을 견지하였다. 김두봉은 무정, 박일우 등 연안파 인물들이 숙청되는 상황에서 별다른 입장을 표명하지 않았다. 더 나아가 그는 연안파의 항일독립운동이 북한 정권에서 배제되는 데에도 일조하였다. 북한 최고인민회의 상임위원장을 맡아 활동하던 김두봉은 제2기 최고인민회의에서는 자리에서 물러났다. 만주파 최용건이 그의 후임이 되었다. 김두봉은 8월 종파사건의 연루자를 색출하는 과정에서 표적이 되었다. 그는 제1차 당대표회의에서 자아비판을 요구받았다. 결국, 그는 친김일성노선을 걸었던 국내파 한설야, 연안파 김창만, 소련파 방학세와는 상이한 정치 행로를 맞이하였다. 투쟁적인 면모를 지닌 정치인이라기보다는 명예와 풍류를 중시한 김두봉의 性情은 그의 퇴출 과정에 적지 않은 영향을 끼쳤다.

After liberation, he was one of the most respected politicians in the Yeonanpa, but was not honored as a leading figure. On the other hand, Yeonanpa were named after regions of activity, but a sense of political unity and bond were not formed when viewed strictly. Kim Du-bong has been a pro-Kim Il Sung since the early days of the North Korean regime. Kim Du-bong did not express his position in the process of purging Yeonanpa such as Mujeong and Park Il-woo. And he further helped the anti Japanese independence activity of the Yeonanpa be excluded from the North Korean regime. Kim Du-bong was accused of pre-recognizing the August sectarian incident. In the end, he became the subject of the purge unlike other figures who took the pro-Kim Il Sung line. Kim Du-bong’s temper, which values honor and taste for the arts rather than his combative aspect, had a significant impact on his purge.
