Biography of Korea’s An Chung-gŭn by Zhang Binglin

본고에서는 ≪황성신문≫ <大東古事>란에 주목했다. 이 난에는 1906년 4월 2일부터 같은 해 12월 10일까지 무려 581편의 글이 실렸다. 그것은 우리나라[大東]의 옛 사적[古事]을 기록한 것으로, 우리나라 과거의 인물이나 지리, 사적에 관한 것들이다. 본 연구자는 이 논문에서 <대동고사>란의 글과 단재 글을 직접 비교하는 방법을 통해 <대동고사>란의 저자에 접근했다. <대동고사>란에 실린 밀우, 유유를 비롯하여 을두지, 장보고, 이순신 등의 인물서술과 황룡국, 구월산, 공험진 등의 지리 서술, 그리고 칠불사, 동수 등의 사적서술이 단재의 글에서도 거의 그대로 나타나며, 또한 그러한 것들은 단재의 역사관과 일치한다. 아울러 <대동고사>란의 글과 단재의 글을 비교해보면 문체적인 측면에서도 아무런 차이가 없다. 당시 황성신문사의 사정에 비추어 볼 때도 그러한 글들은 단재가 쓰기에 적합하다. 그러므로 단재가 <대동고사>란에 수많은 글들을 썼으며, 아울러 그것들이 이후 단재의 역사 기술에 토대가 되었으리라는 점을 합리적으로 추론할 수 있다.

Zhang Binglin’s writing about An Chung-g&#365;n’s life at Changchun in 1913 praising An’s patriotic deed was initially named Biography of Korea’s An Chung-g&#365;n. Therefore, catalogue of the sixth issue of ‘Aeon’ magazine published by Youwenshe Shanghai on March 10 1914 (lunar calendar) - the third year of the Republic of China - mentioned the relevant writing as Biography of Korea’s An Chung-g&#365;n. In other words, its original title at the time when Zhang completed writing about An Chung-g&#365;n’s life must be surely Biography of Korea’s An Chung-g&#365;n. And when four writings including Biography of Korea’s An Chung-g&#365;n were published at the beginning part of ‘Chosen Essays’ at the sixth issue of Aeon Magazine through the help of Zhang’s disciple Kang Baozhong, its was likely to have been published under the title of Memorial of Patriot An owing to Kang’s influence. And its title remained same when it was reprinted in the form of the manuscript of Zhang’s disciple Huang Kan at An Chung-g&#365;n by Pak &#364;n-sik published at the same year of 1914. And by the time of 1915, the disciples published Collection of Books of Zhang Shi from Zhang Binglin’s writings until then and here Memorial of Patriot An was published under a new title of Eulogy to Patriot An. This was presumably because disciples’ opinion that Eulogy to Patriot An might be more befitting than Memorial of Patriot An was reflected. All things considered, it is almost sure that the original title of Biography of Korea’s An Chung-g&#365;n changed to Memorial of Patriot An and then settled down as Eulogy to Patriot An.
