제주4·3사건 당시 대중운동과 무장투쟁

Mass Movement and Armed Struggle during the Jeju April 3 Incident

본고는 기존연구에서 잘 활용되지 않았던 제주도인민유격대 『투쟁보고서』와 판결문 등 대중운동 및 무장투쟁의 주체와 관련된 사료를 중심으로 4·3 당시 대중운동과 무장투쟁의 실상을 연대기적으로 정리한 글이다. 이 연구를 통해 기존 연구결과에서 소홀하게 다루어졌던 대중운동과 무장투쟁 주체세력을 중심으로 한 제주4·3사건의 전개 양상을 객관적으로 서술하였고 많은 새로운 사실을 발굴할 수 있었다. 1947년 ‘3·1사건’ 이후 전개된 각 지역별 대중운동, 1948년 ‘2·7투쟁’의 새로운 실상을 정리하여 4·3무장봉기의 발발 배경을 이해하였다. 무장봉기 결정 과정에서 경비대 9연대원 동원과 제주읍내 공격으로써 제주도 일원을 장악하려는 목표가 좌절된 사실 등도 새롭게 밝혔다. 무장봉기 발발과 무력충돌, 평화협상 추진, 5·10선거 거부투쟁, 북한정권 수립 ‘지하선거’에 대한 내용도 재구성했다. 이 글은 4·3 당시 대중운동과 무장투쟁의 표면적인 실상을 드러낸 글로서 앞으로 새로 발굴한 자료와 기존 인용된 자료들과의 대조 분석을 통한 투쟁의 지도부 및 참여자의 구성 및 활동, 당시 사회상에 대한 면밀한 해석적 연구를 기대해본다.

The paper is based on historical materials related to the main agents of the mass movement and armed struggle, such as the “Report of Jeju’s People’s Liberation Army” and 4·3 written judgement which was not used in the previous research. Through this research, we have objectively described the development of the Jeju 4·3 incident involved in the mass movement and the militant struggle that was neglected in the previous research results, and found many new facts. We understood the reasons behind the outbreak of the armed uprising by organizing the new facts of the respective local mass movements since the March 1 incident in 1947 and the ‘2·7 Fight’. We also reconfigured the outbreak of armed insurrections, armed conflicts, peaceful negotiation initiatives, the fight for the denial of the May 10 elections, and the ‘underground secret elections’ for the establishment of the North Korean regime.
