Kim Gyu-myun’s the Basis of the Independence Movement and Daehan Sinmindan

기존 연구에서는 대한신민단을 창설한 김규면의 역할과 그 조직 기반을 이룬 대한성리교와의 관계를 크게 주목하지 못했다. 이 논문은 김규면의 초기 활동과 대한신민단의 재편과정을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 김규면은 교원이 되기 위해 한성사범학교를 다니고, 무관의 꿈을 이루기 위해 육군무관학교를 다니기도 했다. 그러나 함경도 출신들에 대한 차별과 경제적 어려움으로 인해 무관학교를 그만두어야 했다. 김규면은 종교활동을 통해 국권을 회복하고자 했다. 그는 원산에서 독립선교사였던 펜윅을 만난 후, 훈춘으로 이주하여 대한기독교회에 입교했다. 그는 목사라는 신분을 활용해 국경을 넘나들며 사관학교 생도를 모집하는 등 독립군 양성에 힘을 쏟았다. 그러던 중 그는 교단의 포교규칙 수용으로 외국 선교사 교단의 한계를 깨닫고 만주를 근거지로 대한성리교를 조직했다. 볼셰비키 혁명과 일제의 시베리아 침공 소식이 들리자 김규면은 1918년부터 대한성리교 조직을 기반으로 대한신민단 창설에 착수하여 1919년 설립을 공식적으로 선포했다. 그는 곧이어 사회주의를 수용하며 한인사회당과 합당했다. 하지만 대한신민단의 각 지단은 항일무장투쟁의 의견 차이에 따라 재편되었다. 왕청 지단은 ‘대한신민단’ 명칭을 유지했지만, 독자적으로 다른 독립군과 연합하여 청산리전투에 참가했다. 반면 김규면과 지연·종교로 밀접히 연결되어 있었던 훈춘 지단은 사회주의를 적극적으로 받아들이며 러시아 내전에 참여했다. 김규면과 훈춘 지단은 볼셰비키 혁명을 지지하고, 이를 통해 민족독립을 달성하고자 했던 것이다.

Previous studies were not focused on role of Kim Gyu-myun who created Daehan Sinmindan and relationship with Daehan Sungrigyo. This paper aim to explore his initial activities and the reorganization process of Daehan Sinmindan. Kim tried to recover the sovereignty of a nation through the religious activities at the beginning. However, he noticed limitation of foreign missionaries and established the Daehan Sungrigyo. Kim started to establish Daehan Sinmindan, when he heard the Japanese intervention in Siberia in 1918, and officially declared establishment in 1919. Soon after, he accepted socialism and merged with the Korean Socialist Party. However, Daehan Sinmindan was reorganized according to the differences of way about the anti-Japanese armed struggle. Wangcheng troops independently combined with other army for national independence and engaged in the Battle of Cheongsanri. On the other hand, Hunchun troops accepted socialism and engaged in the Russian Civil War. Kim and Hunchun troops tried to achieve Korean independence by supporting the Bolshevik Revolution.
