대한제국기 한규설의 武班家系와 충북지역 토지 소유

Han Gyuseol’s Military Genealogy and Land Ownership in Chungbuk Area during Korean Empire Period

이 글은 한규설의 무반가계와 충북지역 토지 소유에 대해 검토한 것이다. 그의 집안은 조선 후기 전통 무반가문에 속한다. 한규설은 당시 대표적인 武臣으로, 고종의 두터운 신임을 받았다. 고종 친위세력의 주요 인물로 권력의 핵심을 형성한 무관이었다. 광무양안에 의하면, 그는 진천에 18결22부9속, 충주에 11결26부4속의 토지가 있었다. 진천에서의 지주 순위는 4번째이고, 충주는 104번째 지주였다. 소유지는 지리적으로 좋은 곳에 많이 위치해 있었는데, 농경지가 발달한 평야지대와 교통이 편리한 곳이었다. 특히 토지들이 집중해 있었는데, 진천군과 충주군의 경계지역에 집중 분포해 있었다. 밭보다는 논을 많이 소유하고 있었으며, 토지 등급은 3·4등급에 집중해 있었다. 대부분의 토지는 작인들에 의해 차경되고 있었고, 안정적인 지대수취를 위해 경작지가 있는 작인을 선호하였다. 한규설은 전국 여러 곳에 토지를 보유한 것으로 나타난다. 이 가운데 충북지역 토지는 여러 곳에 분포해 있던 토지 가운데 부분에 해당하지만, 구체적인 토지소유의 실상을 보여주고 있다.

This paper examines Han Gyuseol’s military genealogy and land ownership in Chungbuk area. His family belongs to orthodox military clans in the late Joseon dynasty. Han Gyuseol, a representative military officer(武臣) at that time, was trusted by King Gojong. As a leading figure of Gojong’s royal forces, he was a military officer who constituted the core of power. According to Gwangmuyangan written in the Korean Empire Period, Han Gyuseol owned his lands in Jincheon and Chungju: 18 Gyeol, 22 Bu, 9 Sok in Jinchoen and 11 Gyeol, 26 Bu, 4 Sok, in Chunju. Among landowners, his area of land ranked 4 in Jincheon and 104 in Chungjung. Most of lands owned by him were located at geographically superior places including plains in which farm land was developed and areas which are convenient for transportation. In particular, the lands were concentrated at Wolchon-myeon, Jincheon-gun and at Beopwang-myeon, Chunju-gun. Thus, they were largely distributed on the border between Jincheon-gun and Chungu-gun. He owned rice paddies more than fields and the land degrees of them were often third/fourth degree. Most of lands were borrowed by tenants. And tenants who had arable land were preferred for stable rent receipt.
