A Survey on the Related Materials for the Petition to the Mandate

  • 41

A occasion of Petition to the mandate divided Anti-Japanese Forces of Korea at the time. Basic structure of this mandate was neutralization of Korean peninsula and it’s been originally regarded as personal opinion of Seung Man Lee and his followers. However, thorough survey on historical records reveals that Korean National Association were deeply related of the construction of mandate as well. In fact, during that process, Ahn Chang Ho, leader of Korean National Association, closely cooperated with Dr Lee and both side reached an agreement. It wasn’t unilateral decision of a single side. Ahn chang Ho, didn’t give official commentary When Dr Lee’s petition to the mandate invoked conflicts on Korean society, He hardly revealed nor acknowledged his commitment on the issue. There are two reasons for this. First, a little bit of personal matter, any direct or suggesting connection to this problem could tremendously harm his political reputation. Secondly, Ahn Chang Ho and Seung Man Lee, both of them were prominent figure on Korean Independence Movement at the era. Especially Mr Ahn was renowned advocate of Korean Nationalism. Thus any involvement of this symbolic figure on mandating Korea’s governing right could shake the whole Korean Societies. Conclusively, petition to the mandate wasn’t Seung Man Lee’s personal opinion. Rather, shared belief of pro-American figures and organizations including the Korean National Association.
