The Effects of Emotional Problems of Children from Multicultural Families on Adjustment to School Life: Mediating Effects of Social Support

본 연구는 초등학교 6학년 다문화가정 아동의 정서문제가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고 아동의 정서문제와 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 분석하였다. 한국청소년정책연구원 다문화청소년패널조사의 종단연구 자료 중 초등학교 4학년 연구 3차년도(2013년)에 참여한 1,635명의 초등학교 6학년 자료 중 결측치를 제외한 1,443명의 자료를 최종 분석에 활용하였다. 연구결과를 토대로 논의하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다문화가정 아동이 인식한 정서문제, 사회적 지지, 학교생활적응 간의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 학교생활적응은 다문화가정 아동의 정서문제와 부적 상관관계가 나타난 반면, 사회적 지지와는 정적 상관관계가 나타났다. 둘째, 아동이 인식하는 정서문제가 아동의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향과 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 살펴본 결과, 아동의 정서문제는 학교생활적응에 직·간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 아동의 정서문제와 학교생활적응 간의 관계는 사회적 지지에 의해 부분 매개되었다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of emotional problems of 6th graders in multicultural families on school life adaptation, and to verify the mediating effect of social support in the relationship between children s emotional problems and school life adaptation. Among the longitudinal study data of the Multicultural Youth Panel Survey of the Korea Youth Policy Institute, 1,443 data from 1,635 elementary school 6th graders who participated in the third year (2013) of the 4th grade elementary school study were used for the final analysis. IBM SPSS statistics 18.0(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL., USA) and IBM SPSS Amos 18.0(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The discussion centering on the research results is as follows. First, as a result of examining the relationship between the emotional problems perceived by children from multicultural families, social support, and adaptation to school life, adaptation to school life showed a negative correlation with the emotional problems of children from multicultural families, whereas there was a positive correlation with social support. appear. Second, as a result of examining the effects of children s perceived emotional problems on children s adaptation to school life and the mediating effect of social support, children s emotional problems have a direct or indirect effect on school life adaptation. Also, the relationship between children s emotional problems and school life adaptation was partially mediated by social support.
