한반도 성곽유적에서 추정해 본 발해 상경성 성곽시설 여장의 복원적 고찰

A restoration study on the fortress wall of Balhae Sanggyeongseong estimated from the castle remaining of the Korean Peninsula

본 연구는 발해 상경성 외성 성벽 위에 남아있는 흔적을 근거로 발해시기 성벽에서의 여장존재와 그 모습을 추론해 보고자 했다. 연구의 진행 순서로 제Ⅱ장에서는 여장의 개념과 조영기술 발전을 조선시대 수원화성과 남한산성을 본보기로 정리해 보았다. 여장의 조영방법을고찰해 봄으로써 그 이전시기와는 어떠한 차이가 있으며, 발전된 기술은 어떠한 것이 있는지를파악해 보았다. 제Ⅲ장에서는 고구려와 고려시기 성곽 가운데 여장 흔적을 확인할 수 있는유적을 정리하여 발해와 비교하는 기준틀을 설정하였다. 제Ⅳ장에서는 상경성 외성의 규모와구조방법을 기존 문헌을 통해 파악하고, 이어 연구자가 확인한 여장 흔적을 소개하였다. 제Ⅴ 장에서는 각 시기별로 확인된 여장의 모습을 통해 발해 상경성 외성 성벽 위에는 어떻게생긴 여장이 존재했을까를 추론하여 보았다. 이러한 과정을 통해 얻어진 결과 발해 상경성 외성 성벽 위에는 폭 1m 내외, 높이 1.3m 정도의 여장이 있었던 것으로 추정된다. 여장 길이는 타와 타구로 구별된 선진화된 여장이아니라 고구려나 고려의 경우와 같이 일정 거리를 연속적으로 유지하였을 것이다. 또한 재료가벽돌이 아닌 석재로 여장을 쌓았으므로 사혈과 같은 구멍을 낼 수는 없었을 것이다. 따라서발해 상경성의 외성 성벽은 지금의 모습과 높이가 성벽의 마지막이 아니라 체성벽 위에 여장까지 군사적 방어력을 충분히 갖춘 성곽이었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

This study sought to infer the existence and appearance of fortress wall in the Balhae period based on the castle remaining on the Sanggyeongseong castle. In the order of the research, chapter II summarized the concept of fortress wall and the development of contrast technology as an example of Suwon Hwaseong and Namhansanseong fortress during the Joseon dynasty. By examining the contrast method of fortress wall, we identified the difference from the previous period and the advanced technology. Chapter III established a framework for comparing the traces of fortress wall with Balhae by organizing the remaining of Goguryeo and Goryeo fortress wall. Chapter Ⅳ identified the size and structure method of the Sanggyeongseong through the existing literature, followed by the traces of fortress wall confirmed by the researcher. Chapter Ⅴ deduced from the appearance of the fortress wall identified at each time to see what the fortress wall looked like on the outer wall of Sanggyeongseong. As a result of this study, it is estimated that there was a fortress wall about 1m wide and 1.3m high on the outer wall of Balhae Sanggyeongseong castle.
