Kim, Seong-suk’s Activities and Political Idea while the Korean Provisional Government(PG) in Chongqing

  • 6

Kim, Seong-suk’s joined forces with the Korean PG in Chongqing in the 2nd half of the 1941. Kim insisted the necessity of unity among Koreans, centering around the PG, despite cold treatment since he was a communist. He evaluated the PG as the guidance authority for independence movement and as the government with the national authority bestowed by all the korean people. He had a keen knowledge of the international situation on the Pacific war. During the war, the world powers was discussing the rearrangement of the international order. The Chinese government and the allied nations were watching, in the aspect of countering Japan, how the PG and Koreans were going. In this situation, he thought that each power should foster political influences together through competition and cooperation, from within a coalition government, as well as maintaining its own identity. His main concern was to establish the PG centered korean powers firm so as to correspond to the international anti-fascism front and international alliances against Japan. He presented the realistic proposal for the korean powers to choose, while the international political powers was going to decide the destiny of korean peninsula after the 2nd world war, with proper understanding on anti-fascist international unification front for korea’s own benefit. He considered himself as an independent Korean communist out of the Chinese communists party, censuring Korean communists who moved to the jurisdiction of Chinese communists party as ‘opportunists’ or ‘sectarianists’. In addition, he thought Korean communism movement to be unique, not just the part of the international communism movement.
