한말 崔光玉의 교육활동과 국권회복운동

Kwang-ok Choi(崔光玉) exercised great influence on the save-the-nation enlightenment education movement in the northwestern region during the Daehan Empire. He was born in Pyongan province in 1877 and received classical education. Afterward, he studied western modern knowledge in Pyongyang Sungsil(崇實) middle school and became the first graduate in 1904. In the following year, he went to Japan to study pedagogy in systematical way. However, he had to return ill. He organized Myonhak-hoe(勉學會), an enlightenment association in Anak(安岳), Hwanghae province. He held training courses for instructors every summer from 1907 to 1909. He wrote several books on Korean language and pedagogy. He launched Sinmin-hoe(新民會) and Chongnyunhakwoo-hoe(靑年學友會) with Chang-ho An(安昌浩) and devoted all his life to the restoration of the national right. He died in 1910. Even though his activities were limited in northwestern region and Seoul, and didn t cover long period, his influence cannot be underestimated. He believed in Christian religion which advocated current life and the nation, and paid much attention to the domestic education and of women, instructors and nation.
