This study aims to explore various methods of pattern design by expressing a variety of characteristics inherent of optical art through the utilization of line drawings and dart manipulation on basic bodice. This study expresses design, through logical and reasonable optical art patterns that work with vivid rhythms harmonized with human body s cubic characteristics, by studying the works of optical artist Bridget Riley. Prototype I this imagery emphasizes the contrast between black and white and leads the eye away from the silhouette. This expression the dependent on the motion of the human body and viewer’s angle. Prototype Ⅱ shows the effect of an alternated body by transforming and de-constructing the contours with optical patterns of repeated lines in different angles, length, and thickness, making the front of the bodice more cubic. Prototype III shows simpleness and mobility through repeating lines that vary in thickness, and angle showboating a visually stressful design through the interaction between the pattern and the human body. This expression the dependent on the motion of the human body and viewer’s direction or angle. Prototype IV utilizes the optical illusion of motion by using patterns that start from the shoulder-providing rhythmic elements that are naturally exposed by the human body s silhouette that has flexibility depending on the pattern’s angles. As shown above, optical fashion emphasizes lines and rhythms that are directly connected to the human body’s silhouette, So, if a pattern composition is developed with this relationship in mind, then the conversion of such ideas will lead to creative designs in regards to costume construction.
