Working Conditions and Consciousness of Tourist Hotel Workers in Jeju Island

Studies on work and workers in Jeju Society are rare. I want to compensate this trend by studying working situations of workers. Since 1960 s, tourism is the most rapidly growing industry in Jeju Island. And hotel is the most important business of tourism industry. So, I discussed the working conditions and consciousness of tourist hotel workers. Those aspects are the social and populational characteristics, working conditions, wages, living conditions, satisfaction, social consciousness, and attitudes of labor relations. I examined those situations of the workers by sample survey. The population was all the workers of the 37 tourist hotels in Jeju Island at 1996. And researchers interviewed one or two workers of every hotel in depth to comprehend the basic situations of the hotel.
